Leg 1 Selections: Carry On Aitch, Asian Queen

CARRY ON AITCH remains a maiden after nine starts and hasn’t been able to threaten in three starts this year but if she was to replicate her third at Yarmouth back in September, which came off a six pounds higher mark, she would have a good chance. ASIAN QUEEN has been underwhelming to say the least of late but two of her best runs have been at this course, so she isn’t one to be taken lightly from a low mark.

Leg 2 Selections: Ponga

The second race can go the way of PONGA who is the clear form pick and has placed in all of her four starts to date, two of which have been in class 2 events. She tends to find a way of getting beaten but the first-time cheekpieces should bring about improvement and it is hard to see her out of the frame. A few of the debutants bring potential but she is surely capable of winning a race like this for connections. She is Michael Bell’s only runner on the card as well.

Leg 3 Selections: Royal Mila

ROYAL MILA created a good impression on debut at Goodwood, where she showed a tenacious attitude to make a successful debut and surely has plenty more to come. She has to carry a penalty but she’s promising, undoubtedly has a lot of ability and her trainer William Haggas has an excellent 30% strike-rate at this course too. This daughter of Nathaniel is fancied to extend her unbeaten record or, at the very least, make the frame.

Leg 4 Selections: Nomadic Empire, May Sonic

David O’Meara’s NOMADIC EMPIRE returned to form when third at Haydock recently, and remains on the same mark for this race. His last two wins have come off marks of 93, so this mark of 89 is clearly within his capabilities and there’s a good chance he will defy top-weight. I wouldn’t rule out a positive showing from MAY SONIC though, who has won over track and trip and is three pounds below his last winning mark. He is much lower in the handicap than when last seen on the turf, so he could bounce back and go well at a price.

Leg 5 Selections: Be Frank, Sergeant Pep

BE FRANK brings potential into the race, as he could rank higher given he made an easy winning reappearance three weeks ago. That was a huge step forward from his two previous outings and makes his handicap debut off a fairly nice mark. He’s an obvious pick but I will also recommend including SERGEANT PEP, who should be able to produce his best form on the turf before too long. He hasn’t cut much ice in his two previous attempts on the turf but this mark is exploitable and he could be set to feature in the outcome.

Leg 6 Selections: Galactic Glow, Asense

GALACTIC GLOW finally shed the maiden tag when scoring at Bath 10 days ago and remains well-handicapped on a few key pieces of his form, including when second twice in 2021 off marks in the 60’s. A repeat of his latest success should see him extremely competitive. ASENSE has yet to win but has placed numerous times off higher marks to suggest she can run a big race in this weak-looking contest. She consistently runs well in defeat and should be thereabouts.
