Leg 1 Selections: Mawkeb, Trojan Truth

MAWKEB has gained both wins at Chelmsford but he ran one of his better races on the turf when third at Nottingham last-time-out and has frame possibilities if lasting out this longer distance. TROJAN TRUTH won two starts ago and wasn’t beaten all that far at Nottingham last time either. He also has frame claims in what is a difficult opener.

Leg 2 Selections: Delicacy, Queen Of Atlantis

DELICACY wasn’t fancied at all on debut at Kempton but shaped promisingly in finishing fifth of 10 and is expected to improve on that experience here. She has to be recognised as one of the leading players, while debutant QUEEN OF ATLANTIS is interesting and also worth a second look. James Ferguson is really making a name for himself as one of the most underrated trainers around and this filly, who’s very well bred, could go well.

Leg 3 Selections: Pink Satin, Shuwari

PINK SATIN looked a potential smart filly when powering to success on debut at Windsor and I can envisage that form working out well in due course. She has William Buick doing the steering this time and could be hard to beat. SHUWARI is an interesting newcomer, who is Ollie Sangster’s only runner of the day and Tom Marquand is an interesting booking. She merits consideration in a race where a case can be made for the whole field.

Leg 4 Selections: Splendent, Vaynor

SPLENDENT ran a huge race when third at York two starts ago and that form has a strong look to it, as the first, second and fourth have all won again since. If the cheekpieces bring about more improvement, he should hit the frame at the very least given how strong that York form is. For the same owners, VAYNOR could be set to go close as well, who would only need to repeat his latest third at Goodwood to give this field a few problems too.

Leg 5 Selections: Puffable, Jimmy Lifestyle

PUFFABLE hasn’t succeeded since winning a nursery event when beating Grace Angel but that form makes her well-handicapped off a mark of 70 as the runner-up subsequently won off 86. She should be competitive having gone close when last seen at Goodwood. JIMMY LIFESTYLE should have a nice race in him after a solid fourth on handicap debut last time and is shortlisted.

Leg 6 Selections: Bastogne, King Of The Dance

BASTOGNE developed into a good horse a couple of seasons ago when formerly-trained by David Evans, which included a win as well placing four times in class 2 events behind the likes of Modern Games, Harrow and Desert Angel. Each one of those has upheld the form with big-race victories.

His three runs last year didn’t showcase his actual qualities but his latest third on stable debut for these connections did which was a major step back in the right direction. From the same mark coupled with the drop in grade, this four-year-old who has restituted his old form based on that latest piece of evidence is one of my strongest picks of the week.

I wouldn’t rule out a decent display from KING OF THE DANCE, who by contrast, is still winless but his debut third at this course and close-up second two starts ago makes him dangerous to rule out at large odds. He will strip fitter from his reappearance and isn’t out of this by any means.
