Leg 1 Selections: Musterion, Ceilidh

The first of my Placepot Tips today is MUSTERION, who has only found one too good in each of her last two starts. Although this is a significant ease in grade, she is drawn well to forward from an early stage and might take a bit of catching with more to come. 

CEILIDH has also placed in his last two starts and returns to the all-weather off a lower mark. An apprentice, who claims seven pounds, is booked to ride and George Baker’s charge could be set to turn in another career-best. 

Leg 2 Selections: Vinaka, Melody Cher 

VINAKA has displayed promise in all four starts, which includes two placed efforts, and she came very close to winning on handicap/seasonal debut at Salisbury last-time-out, touched off in a three-way finish. 

Unfortunately, she is drawn wide back on the all-weather but is only a pound higher for this contest and is well-treated on her third at Wolverhampton in September when behind horses rated 86 and 80. If she can overcome the draw, she must go close. 

Of the remainder, MELODY CHER, who made the frame twice last year, could go well from a good slot in stall. Jonathan Fisher claims five pounds and his mount would only need to repeat her second to Zanbaq to have a say in the outcome. 

Leg 3 Selections: Bigger Than Giga 

I was really impressed with the way BIGGER THAN GIGA conducted herself on debut after a tardy start, where she absolutely motored through the field when she found her stride to take third. 

The form has yet to be tested but the step up in trip is well worth an experiment given the evidence of her late burst of speed last-time-out. With more to come, in what is a winnable maiden, this filly can go close. 

Leg 4 Selections: Inishfallen, Primetime

The Brian Meehan-trained INISHFALLEN showed plenty of ability when sixth of 13 on debut at Newbury, where he held every chance two furlongs out before finding no extra late into the race. 

That experience will have definitely taught him a lot and he is considered. Another interesting debutant is PRIMETIME, who is a son of the classy Time Test and could be ready to make an impact for Alice Haynes. 

Leg 5 Selections: Lisboa, Nasim

LISBOA has the potential to make a splash into the handicapping sphere after shaping with promise in three starts. This son of Galileo ran well behind Chaldean on debut and improvement is surely imminent. 

NASIM returned a respectable third just over weeks ago and is only two pounds above his last winning mark, so Mick Appleby’s charge holds leading claims. 

Leg 6 Selections: Dembe, Molly Valentine 

DEMBE has the worst of the draw but he has a solid course record, including on the all-weather in general, and is now a pound below his last successful mark. If he can manage the draw, he’s not without a chance. 

Conversely, MOLLY VALENTINE is drawn well in stall 4 and ran well in this grade over course-and-distance three weeks ago. A repeat performance should see her heavily competitive.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be. 

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
