Leg 1 Selections: Paws For Thought, Maywake

PAWS FOR THOUGHT saves his best for this course, with two wins here plus a host of placed efforts. He couldn’t figure last time at this course but that was undoubtedly a stronger race than this and he should be competitive in this easier contest. MAYWAKE is a consistent sort, who gained two wins and six placed efforts from just eight starts in 2021 and has made the frame in all four starts this year. He is back on his last winning mark and should also be thereabouts.

Leg 2 Selections: Rukaana, Witness Stand

RUKAANA is related to plenty of useful winners and Charlie Hills does well with his newcomers and this son of Dark Angel could be ready to make an impact if the market speaks in his favour. WITNESS SAND is another interesting debutant and represents the Tom Clover team. He is drawn reasonably in six and has Danny Tudhope in the saddle. This is a tough race to solve but hopefully we can get through to the next stage of the pool.

Leg 3 Selections: Up The Jazz

UP THE JAZZ went very close in a much stronger race than this at Chester last-time-out and has improved in each of his three starts for connections. He is drawn well in five, drops in grade and goes up in distance. There’s a lot to like about his chances and I just cannot see him out of the frame in what is a really weak contest.

Leg 4 Selections: Pearly Star, Finn Russell

Hugo Palmer does well here with his runners and his filly PEARLY STAR should be going close if she doesn’t get herself too far back in the early stages. She has been nearest the finish in her two recent starts and has a fair chance of making the frame. FINN RUSSELL has an absence to overcome but a repeat of his second two starts ago would be good enough form to win this race as she had subsequent Epsom Dash fourth Jm Jungle back on third. Ian Williams can prepare one after a layoff too.

Leg 5 Selections: Sparks Fly, Market Value

SPARKS FLY has proved a revelation of late, winning her last four starts and the five-timer could well be on the cards but MARKET VALUE is William Haggas’ only runner on the card and his impressive 25% strike-rate at this course should be taken into account. This filly opened her account impressively at Ripon from the front and should be hard to topple, as she’s likely to go forward from her good slot in stall four.

Leg 6 Selections: Theme Park, Balance Play

THEME PARK has made a very positive start to his career and split two horses rated 87 and 91 at York in a stronger race last-time-out. The step up in trip should bring about improvement and he certainly has the form to figure being the highest-rated in the field. BALANCE PLAY was right behind subsequent easy winner Silver Sword at Epsom when third and should be extremely hard to beat with a repeat in this much easier race.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
