Leg 1 Selections: Coachello, Tiger Crusade

The opener is the JenningsBet Festival Handicap and while it has a competitive look to it, Irish raider COACHELLO could easily be capable of defying top-weight. Gordon Elliott interestingly sends just this one runner to the course, who takes a huge drop in grade after contesting a Group 2 last month.

He was previously a close-up third behind the 108 rated Moss Tucker and 113 rated Tenebrism in a Listed event and that is a high-class piece of form. He beat the 115 rated Man Of Promise in a Listed race back in January plus he was unlucky not to beat the 106 rated Noble Dynasty on his last start on the all-weather.

He was short of room at a crucial stage but still managed to get within a length of the winner who has won again since. He makes plenty of appeal, especially with a good record of 1312 on the all-weather while TIGER CRUSADE also has a good record on the all-weather and beat a subsequent winner two starts back.

Leg 2 Selections: Witch Hunter, Tiber Flow

WITCH HUNTER produced a classy performance in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot under a big weight, coming from last to first. He has finished second in both his previous starts in Listed company and went close over track and trip in his only previous visit to this course when just denied by the 109 rated Diligent Harry.

Richard Kingscote takes over in the saddle this time and, on the back of a career-best success, he’s a major player. He will need luck-in running but if he gets it, he will be hard to stop in the Group 3 JenningsBet Chipchase Stakes.

TIBER FLOW is a very smart horse himself, who has a good record on the all-weather. He is a Listed winner who ran well when eighth of 20 the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last year. The fact that connections bypassed the Royal meeting with him this year makes him of serious interest and he ran well when second at Haydock last-time-out. Great chance.

Leg 3 Selections: Cozone, La Hacienda

Irish trainer runs two in the third race, the Northumberland Vase, and I quite like the chances of both. COZONE is the bigger priced one of the two but his form makes him one of the leading candidates in my view.

The last time he competed over this trip, he succeeded at Dundalk, in which he beat the 88-rated Lunar Power. He stays well, is draw fairly in stall 11 and has a better chance than his odds suggest. I initially thought he would be towards the top of the market, so if he does make the frame or wins, quite a few units will be eliminated.

His stablemate LA HACIENDA ran a tidy race when second in a Listed event eight days ago and has a fair chance if able to back that up here with Harry Davies booked to ride. He can claim a valuable three pounds and gets a nice slot in stall 6, so this mare should pose a threat with plenty in her favour.

Leg 4 Selections: Vino Victrix, Adjuvant

The feature race is the fourth race, the Northumberland Plate, and I really like the chances of VINO VICTRIX, who has a solid record on the all-weather and has been targeted at this race for some time.

He ran a lot better than the beaten margin suggested in the Chester Cup and his second in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket is amongst the best form in the field. He merits serious consideration.

ADJUVANT is an improving youngster, who makes his tapeta debut and a four pounds rise for winning a competitive handicap comfortably seems very fair. He is open to further improvement and the step up in distance should suit as he tends to hit the line strongly.

Leg 5 Selections: Marshal Dan, The Gatekeeper

MARSHAL DAN has turned in a couple of below-par efforts the last twice but his stable do well at this venue and this eight-year-old has run some big races off this mark and slightly higher in the past. He gets the services of Rossa Ryan and the last time he ran here, he was fourth off a pound higher mark. He could bounce back and make the frame.

THE GATEKEEPER won over course-and-distance in March and will find the drop in grade much to his liking after being taken off his feet at Royal Ascot in the Buckingham Palace. He ran well off a pound higher mark in the Silver Arrow at Musselburgh back in April and is one-from-one on the all-weather, which came at this course on his return. His last two wins came under this rider and Charlie Johnston’s charge has excellent place claims at least with more to come.

Leg 6 Selections: Markakol, Zaman Daar

MARKAKOL was an expensive yearling and although he failed to meet market expectations when only sixth on debut, he should prove a different proposition here and is expected to feature in the outcome for Roger Varian, who has an excellent record with youngsters on the all-weather.

ZAMAN DAAR is an interesting newcomer, who’s a son of multiple Group 1 winner Churchill and Oisin Murphy is a good jockey booking, too. He could be ready to run a big race here and he his connections’ only runner on the card as well.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
