Leg 1 Selections: Jeepydoff Meel, An Mhi

AN MHI has won his last two starts very impressively and appears to have been found a very good opportunity by Gordon Elliott to complete the hat-trick. JEEPYDOFF MEEL is the main threat, who beat a subsequent winner at Market Rasen just over three weeks ago and is likely to capitalise if the favourite doesn’t succeed.

Leg 2 Selections: Noahthirtytwored

NOAHTHIRTYTWORED has been prolific for well over a year now, winning six times since April last year and after racking up a sequence of wins last summer, there’s a chance he will do so again after beating a solid yardstick in Lightnstrike last month. A four pound rise means he is on a new career-high mark but another personal best could be on the way here.

Leg 3 Selections: Twig

The big race of the day is the Summer Cup and the well-handicapped TWIG has been given a great chance at the weights. With a record of five wins from eight starts in point-to-points and three wins from four starts over fences, he’s also won three times over hurdles, including off a mark of 135 here back in May.

He is eligible to compete off the same mark in this race with 7lb claimer Beau Morgan maintaining the ride. This consistent eight-year-old has done little wrong so far in his career, who loves winning, and he could be capable of gaining his biggest pay cheque for connections. He’s a serious player.

Leg 4 Selections: Merry Poppins

Donald McCain sends just the one runner to the course in the shape of MERRY POPPINS, who is also Theo Gillard’s only ride on the card as well for his boss. The six-year-old mare hasn’t won since her debut but is proving really consistent and has placed in her last four starts.

She found the trip too sharp at Cartmel last time when only third but she ran an excellent race when third of 16 in the Pertemps Network Long Distance Handicap Hurdle at Haydock, a stronger race than this, and might have even won but for a bad mistake three out when in front and going well.

Her half-a-length second at Cheltenham prior to that place effort was also solid. Now returned to this longer distance, she has a great chance to deservedly open her account for the year.

Leg 5 Selections: Thibault, Bombyx

The handicapper has provided THIBAULT with a good chance of being competitive here. The ten-year-old has often mixed it over hurdles and on the Flat and is dropped in class to this grade for the first time since winning at Fontwell off just a pound lower mark. He ran well on the back of a breathing operation when third on the Flat just under two weeks ago and should be soot on to run well back over hurdles.

BOMBYX was the best of these on the Flat though, rated as high as 98 and translated that form over hurdles afterwards, with a win and two placed efforts from five starts. He split two horses rated 126 and 127 at Kempton and this is an easier race. He thumped a 113 rated horse on his hurdles debut by seven lengths, so he’s very well-handicapped off 114 here and is expected to be extremely competitive.

Leg 6 Selections: Sir Canford

SIR CANFORD arrives on the back of a very solid third, which was his debut run for this yard and his first start after an absence. He will strip fitter from that return and is dropped into a class 5 over hurdles for the first time in his career. The seven-year-old has lots of useful form on the Flat and is open to further improvement in this sphere, so he might be capable of defying top-weight.
