Leg 1 Selections: The Cola Kid, Under Curfew

THE COLA KID came within a short-head of beating Sympathise here nine days ago, who was winning for the third time in a row and the former can compete off the same mark here. He would only need to show a reproduction of that performance to at least make the frame.

UNDER CURFEW has made the frame in his last three starts and remains five pounds lower than when scoring in a better grade at Chepstow. He is well-handicapped on the pick of his form.

Leg 2 Selections: Labalaba

The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained LABALABA should prove hard to beat in the second race. I thought he ran very well to finish second on debut at Salisbury despite looking as though he would improve significantly for the experience. Of those with experience, that is the best form and while John Steed is probably the main danger on paper, this nice prospect can go one place better.

Leg 3 Selections: Doras Tamar

Passing Time just about sets the standard but is becoming exposed and preference is for Lingfield second DORAS TAMAR, who didn’t do much wrong on her debut and should improve in this moderate-looking contest. Kevin Stott has a good book of rides on the card and he takes the ride. His mount is open to further improvement and she should be extremely competitive.

Leg 4 Selections: Mrs Twig

The fourth race is competitive despite just the six runners and I like the claims of MRS TWIG, a daughter of the classy Mastercraftsman, who has improved with each start. She ran a satisfactory race when third in a warmer contest at Newbury and will be suited to the slight reduction in distance here. With more to offer, and a fair opening handicap debut mark of 70, she’s a leading candidate for her in-form stable.

Leg 5 Selections: Wisper, Lucky Fifteen

WISPER won four times last year and has raised her game since the turn of the year, winning on her reappearance before finishing third off this mark at Windsor last month. She would have finished second at the very least if she encountered a clear passage and was also second on her only previous visit at this course too. Despite her big weight, she ought to be thereabouts.

LUCKY FIFTEEN is at the opposite end of the handicap, who’s won her last two starts, and a further five pound rise doesn’t look enough to stop him from potentially completing the hat-trick. He is progressing at a rate of knots and another career-best could well be on the cards.

Leg 6 Selections: Tin Fandango, Masterdream

TIN FANDANGO displayed a glimmer of a return to form when fourth at Lingfield just over two weeks ago and he is back on the same mark when scoring off this mark at Newbury in a stronger race back in October. The eight-year-old should be ready for a return to winning form at any point from now with cheek-pieces fitted.

MASTERDREAM is the other one who appeals most, who is a decent hurdler and wasn’t beaten far when third in a stronger race than this at Bath 17 days ago. He drops into a class 6 for the first time in his career and should be hard to beat. I cannot see why he won’t go very close.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
