Leg 1 Selections: Kristal Klear, Arkenstaar
Hugo Palmer’s filly KRISTAL KLEAR ran very well in her two previous outings at this course and returned a solid fourth at Carlisle last-time-out. This is a significant step up in trip but if she stays, she’s surely going to be thereabouts.
ARKENSTAAR couldn’t land the hat-trick over track and trip three weeks ago when fourth but she’s been left on the same mark and remains one to be positive about.

Leg 2 Selections: Swift Hawk
SWIFT HAWK could be the answer to the second race, who has showcased race-by-race progress and lost little in defeat when second to Lordship at Chepstow. The winner returned a comfortable next-time-out victor at Yarmouth to advertise the strength of the form and, with a fair opening handicap debut mark of 73, William Knight’s youngster could be tough to beat.

Leg 3 Selections: Beveragino
BEVERAGINO made a solid introduction to his career on debut at Beverley, where he travelled noticeably well and kept up on well to take third, beaten under a length. The form has yet to be tested but it looked a good race for the grade and he is Michael Bell’s only runner on the card as well. With improvement on the cards, he ought to take a bit of beating with the drop in trip sure to suit. A positive view can be made about his chances despite the newcomers.

Leg 4 Selections: Paws For Thought, Red Mirage
Plenty of these are in with a shout but I was really impressed with the way PAWS FOR THOUGHT ran his rivals into submission at Chester, where he was quickly into stride and was able to dictate matters. Yes he was given an uncontested lead but he went at a blistering pace and then injected further pressure on the rest when he quickened over two furlongs out and put the race to bed.
He scored by over two lengths with a distance back to the third and under another attacking ride, the follow-up could be on the cards. RED MIRAGE did win twice last year off marks of 89 and 90 and was in front of the former at Chester when second off 92. He’s five pounds lower here and is better off at the weights with the former as well, so he’s an outsider worthy of interest.

Leg 5 Selections: Final Credit
Poet Master won easily on his debut and could be tough to beat with a similar performance and with more to come but FINAL CREDIT took a step forward from his down the field effort on debut to open his account under a modification in tactics when seeing off all rivals from the front at Wetherby. He beat an odds-on favourite and recorded a pretty quick time as well. With surely more to offer, he could represent a portion of value at the odds.

Leg 6 Selections: Sir Maxi, Spells At Dawn
SIR MAXI defied a six pounds higher mark around this time last year and has slowly come to the oil this year, finishing fourth in his last two starts. He will carry much less weight than last time and has a good chance of at least making the frame. SPELLS AT DAWN has been largely disappointing the last two times but is surely capable off this mark at this level and might be worth some inclusion at quite fair odds.
How does a Placepot work?
The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.
When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.
Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.
To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
