DISTINGUISHED LADY (best price 7/1) has twice left the impression this season that six furlongs is an insufficient test and with connections clearly coming to the same conclusion, Alice Haynes’ filly can make a bold bid to add to her only previous victory at today’s track.

A strong-finishing third following a slow start a Chester on her opening outing of the campaign, the daughter of Zoustar was once again caught out of her ground at York last time but this time on a track offering more assistance to those up with the speed, she couldn’t make up the necessary deficit conceded in the early part of the race.

That said, she still came home with a far degree of purpose to finish a never-nearer fifth and with today’s slower surface and extra furlong likely to see her to better advantage, the scopey three-year-old is fancied to make more of an impact.

ARAMIS GREY (best price 16/1) has a bit to find according to the official ratings, but she does have the profile to suggest she often excels on this sort of surface, so there is a decent chance she will find the necessary requirements to bridge the gap with the sexier candidates.

To highlight her body of work, you have to go a long way back to note when she didn’t run her race and her latest effort in a listed contest at Haydock on the turf suggests she deserves another crack at pattern level. Despite not receiving a clear run inside the last two furlongs, she kept on willingly to finish a never-nearer third and with the sixth going on to advertise the form since, Rae Guest’s mare deserves marking up on her effort.

A winner of eight all-weather races and placed in 15 others in 30 starts – several of which have taken place around today’s course – the six-year-old grey has to be regarded as a dangerous floater.
