Leg 1 Selections: Local Dynasty, Like A Tiger

William Buick has opted to ride the other Charlie Appleby team-member but LOCAL DYNASTY won three of his four starts last year and his Listed success at Pontefract is amongst the best form on offer. He gave five pounds and a beating to the 112-rated Caenarfon who has since placed in both the 1000 Guineas and the Oaks.

This son of Dubawi was last seen running a big race under a big weight in the Golden Gate at Royal Ascot and is only a pound higher for this contest. He won here on debut and surely he’s better than a mark of 101 based on that big win last year, so he’s a major contender under James Doyle.

James Ferguson’s LIKE A TIGER won back-to-back contests before only finishing sixth on the Rowley Mile last time. He’s better than that though and could go well with the form of his debut second working out well. Hollie Doyle has been booked to ride as well.

Leg 2 Selections: Star Of Mystery, Persian Dreamer, Thanksbutnothanks

STAR OF MYSTERY comfortably landed the odds in a Listed race over course-and-distance a couple of weeks ago and clearly has more to come, so she has to go on the list.

PERSIAN DREAMER ran a cracker when fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot and is the main danger if she repeats that performance here.

THANKSBUTNOTHANKS found it tough in the Queen Mary but she retains potential and her second to Dawn Charger on debut reads well.

Leg 3 Selections: Prydwen, Themaxwecan

George Scott’s PRYDWEN is a very capable performer, who boasts a really solid overall record, and came within a whisker of defeating Kihavah at Ayr last time, where he would have won in another stride having hit the line strongly when stepped up to a mile and five furlongs.

He meets that rival on much better terms here so he’s got every chance of reversing the form, plus his third two starts back at Haydock reads well too. This longer distance should suit and if he’s within striking distance late on, he has every chance of bagging a third win on the turf.

THEMAXWECAN hasn’t been disgraced in finishing midfield in both the Ascot Stakes and the Northumberland Plate. He is now a pound lower than when winning the Shergar Cup Stayers and, with Neil Callan in the saddle, this tough stayer cannot be ruled out.

Leg 4 Selections: Prosperous Voyage, Coppice

The more I look at this race, the more I think last year's winner PROSPEROUS VOYAGE has an excellent chance of at least making the frame with William Buick booked to ride. She probably hasn’t been at her best so far this year but has still produced smart form and last year’s 1000 Guineas runner-up beat Inspiral in this twelve months ago.

This is her time of year too, as she’s unbeaten in two starts in the month of July and her whole season has undoubtedly been built around this race again. The defending champion has major place claims at least.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained COPPICE is the intriguing runner, who’s won three of her four starts, and was impressive in winning the Sandringham at Royal Ascot last time. She’s two-from-two over a mile and should have plenty more to come.

Tom Marquand is a fascinating jockey booking and whilst this daughter of Kingman needs a new personal best to succeed, she could do just that. I think the market has underestimated her credentials.

Leg 5 Selections: Arabic Legend, Warm Spell

ARABIC LEGEND has an excellent pedigree, being related to several Group 1 winners and Andrew Balding does well with his newcomers. I can see this son of Dubawi running a big race on debut.

WARM SPELL meanwhile, ran a promising race when second on debut at Goodwood and is sure to improve with that experience under his belt. Roger Varian’s charge should be on the premises.

Leg 6 Selections: Tiger Crusade

I’ll take a sole chance on the top-weight TIGER CRUSADE, who remains unexposed on the turf and is best known for his exploits on the all-weather.

His last win was off a three pound higher mark on that surface, in which he beat Buckingham Palace winner Witch Hunter, so he’s well-treated back on the turf.

He ran very well at Newcastle last time and has the class to figure should he translate his all-weather form to the grass. I like his chances a lot.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
