COCONUT TWIST (best price 7/2) has suffered the misfortune of finishing runner-up on his last four starts but in the hope the first-time cheekpieces provide him with a bit more clarity when push comes to shove, Brian Barr’s agonising wait for that all-important breakthrough win can end.

The way he went through his latest encounter over today’s course, the five-year-old gave himself every chance of ending his frustrating run of results, but not for the first time, he found the rapidly improving Secret Trix too strong in the latter stages and he ended up chasing the winner in vain. Although he would have been chastised in many quarters for that effort, it is worth pointing out he posted a useful speed figure in sprinting 22 lengths clear of the rest from two out and a run of a similar level is almost sure to see him bang in contention at the business end once again.

FLOREY SPUD (best price 4/1) has done precious little wrong in his last two starts and with both performances strongly hinting that the son of Well Chosen isn’t a million miles away from making that all-important breakthrough, he is afforded another chance to finally deliver the goods.

Impressing with the way he travelled at Sligo two starts ago, he unfortunately found one with a better turn of foot after the last and although the same fate awaited him at Wexford last time out, the combination of being too keen in the early stages over three miles inevitably caught up with him against a rival who had better resources for that sort of trip.

Back down to somewhere approaching his optimum distance this evening, expect the eight-year-old to be put to sleep at the rear of the field before hopefully being deliver late on the better ground out wide on the run-in.
