Leg 1 Selections: Lieutenant Rascal, Midnight Lir

LIEUTENANT RASCAL has a good chance of taking the opener for trainer George Scott under the guidance of Luke Morris. All of his form has worked out well, particularly his placed efforts behind Ganesha, Jungle Mate and Bellarchi. He wasn’t disgraced in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot either, so he could emerge as a serious threat in this event. MIDNIGHT LIR wasn’t far behind the former when they clashed at Hamilton and has improved since, so he is selected as a next best option for the bet.

Leg 2 Selections: Crow’s Nest, Hectic

CROW’S NEST has more to offer than most of these given he has only had four starts, which has resulted with two wins and two placed efforts. He was only just behind subsequent winner Fierce on handicap debut last-time-out when giving the front pair a lot of weight and has a good chance from the same mark here. HECTIC was only touched off by a neck from this mark at Newmarket in April in a much better race and won’t be far away with a similar showing in this easier race.

Leg 3 Selections: Achillea, Shahbaz

The bottom-weight ACHILLEA makes plenty of appeal for the Dean Ivory team. Her form is starting to stack up well, including when placing in two of her last three starts. She split horses rated in the 80s last time, so she is undeniably well-handicapped off a mark of 72 and should be competitive. SHAHBAZ has hit the frame twice recently in better events off higher marks and must be considered in this easier assignment.

Leg 4 Selections: Persuasion, Zero Carbon

It’s difficult to knock the consistency of PERSUASION who might only have two wins to his name but has placed 11 times in his career, including his last five starts off higher marks in similar events. He has the class to beat these, while ZERO CARBON is better than he showed at Epsom last-time-out and can bounce back under Ben Curtis.

Leg 5 Selections: Angle Land, Nomadic Empire

ANGLE LAND has been well beaten the last two times but her sixth in the Dash at Epsom is good form and she is only a pound higher than when scoring at Goodwood. She could go well, though it’s about time NOMADIC EMPIRE got back on the winning sheet, whose last win was off a six pounds higher mark and he has placed numerous times since off higher marks in stronger events. A good rider takes off three pounds as well, so this could be the time he gets a first win in nearly two years. I am keeping the faith with him.

Leg 6 Selections: Sir Chauvelin, Haliphon, Cardano

SIR CHAUVELIN caught the eye two starts back in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle, where he came from off the pace to be a fast-finishing eighth of 19 and would have finished closer at Hamilton last time with a clear passage. His last win was off a two pounds higher mark and the booking of Hayley Turner is positive. The veteran should go close if he gets the breaks. HALIPHON won at Chester this time last year off a five pounds higher mark, so he’s included, as is CARDANO who has won and placed in better races off higher marks in the past and should feature.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
