There is little doubt Willaston has the best form courtesy of his success over a useful field at Haydock when last seen, but being off the track for a reasonable length of time might just count against him and he is passed over in favour of JET OF MAGIC (best price 3/1), whose fitness can not be questioned.
A four-time winner when in the care of Paul Nicholls, the son of Jet Away was having his first run for his new yard over today’s C&D earlier in the month and after setting a decent pace from the start, he ground his opposition into submission with a fine display of stamina, in turn, posting a useful speed figure.
Having jumped the last hurdle well clear, it was noticeable he became a little tired on the run-in, but being as it was his first outing for 80 days, he can be afforded a reasonable amount of slack. Clearly well suited by both track, good ground, and the first-time tongue-tie, it makes plenty of sense to stay loyal to the seven-year-old on his return visit.
