Leg 1 Selections: Chumbaa, Princess Alex, Queens Road Revue

The opener is anybody’s for the taking so I recommend covering the race with three picks. While she is more exposed than most, CHUMBAA has placed in six of her nine starts and the form of her course-and-distance fifth last May is strong with the first (World Of Darcy) and second (Dawn Charger) advertising the form since. This could be the time she gets her head in front, while PRINCESS ALEX and QUEENS ROAD REVUE could improve on what they have shown to date and feature.

Leg 2 Selections: Perfect Swiss, Ascari, Bay Dream Believer

PERFECT SWISS has a good record at this course, winning twice over this distance, and was a good second here nine days ago. He is the choice of David Allan and remains only two-pounds above his last winning mark, while plenty went wrong for ASCARI at Windsor but he shaped well in fifth and has to be shortlisted from an exploitable mark. BAY DREAM BELIEVER’s connections do well here and she shouldn’t be far away if able to get away on level terms.

Leg 3 Selections: Poker Face, Flight Plan

The feature race could go to POKER FACE who is the only one of these to have won over course-and-distance and ran very well when second in a Listed event last-time-out. The return to a mile should help him advance his form, though FLIGHT PLAN has been highly tried in his career and ran well in the Jersey at Royal Ascot last-time-out when only beaten three lengths. He was beaten only a neck on his return at this level at Newcastle and his rating of 105 puts him right in the mix with his three-year-old allowance coming into effect as well.

Leg 4 Selections: Piecederesistance, Orchestra

PIECEDERESISTANCE won this race twelve months ago off a five-pounds higher mark and even though he hasn’t been at the top of his game so far this year, he is more than capable of making a bold bid to defend his crown. His main danger could turn out to be ORCHESTRA who won his only previous visit here and conditions will be in his favour. Ed Dunlop is 6-25 here (24%) and his only runner on the card must be considered a major contender with Tom Marquand booked to ride. There is plenty to like about his chances and I’m pretty confident we have this race covered.

Leg 5 Selections: Tribute

Not my cup of tea these events and I like to avoid odds-on favourites if applicable but I just cannot see how TRIBUTE doesn’t make the frame at the very least in this race. This is an extremely weak contest and this son of Acclamation sets the standard despite being more exposed than most. James Doyle takes the ride, he is drawn well in stall 4 and a repeat of his latest Windsor fourth, in the retained visor, should be enough to see him open his account. Dubawi Warrior hasn’t shown enough to be given a place on the ticket.

Leg 6 Selections: Fleurir

Another weak-looking race and we stick with the top of the market in the form of FLEURIR, who has bags of experience despite looking a little exposed. Retraction shaped with promise when runner-up on debut but the former was only beaten a neck at Newmarket when last spotted and is granted a good draw in stall 3. She is the clear form-pick and this is an excellent chance to open her account. She would only need to repeat her second to Coppice, which came in this grade, to see her beat these.

How does a Placepot work?

The more people who play the Placepot at a given meeting, the larger the pool will be. If less people find the winning combination across the six races, the bigger the winning dividend will be.

When placing your Tote Placepot bet, you can choose whether to make one or more selections in each race, which are referred to as lines.

Adding multiple lines in a race increases your chances of picking a horse that places. However, your total stake is determined ‘per line’, so the more lines you place the higher the stake will be.

To work out how much you have won, multiply your stake per line by the amount of winning lines you have. Your winnings will then be either that percentage of the published £1-stake winnings or a multiple of the published dividend.
