Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action, with runners at Galway and Sandown.
17:10 Galway
Lan Cinnte looks a worthy favourite based on recent form but preference instead goes to SEA GARDENS (best priced at 9/2) on his handicap debut. The Joseph O’Brien trained son of Siyouni has been a beaten favourite on his two starts this season when sent off 5/4 favourite and 13/8 favourite but has only finished beaten 2 ¾ lengths on both occasions.
Sea Gardens now makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 83 which seems fair but he now runs for the first time since being gelded as well as in first time cheekpieces. Stall 7 shouldn’t prove too much of an inconvenience in this small field and I expect him to get off the mark at the fourth attempt.
17:40 Galway
Up And Under is no doubt the one to beat with a rating of 106 but WINTER FOG (best priced at 9/2) looks the obvious each way alternative if the big field handicap proves too much for the three-year-old on only his fifth start. Willie Mullins has trained the winner of this race 5 out of the previous 6 years and Patrick Mullins has ridden the winner of this race 5 out of the previous 6 years (both won in 2018, 2019 and 2020) so it is clearly a race that they target at the festival.
Winter Fog is a three-time hurdles winner rated 148 who comes into this race following an easy success at Cork over hurdles 19 days ago. He is much higher rated than The Last Mardi who is only rated 125 over hurdles and he looks the most likely to pick up the pieces if the favourite disappoints.
18:22 Sandown
All four runners in this 0-75 nursery handicap are in with a chance but preference goes to TREVOR (best priced at 9/4) on his first run over 5f. The Pat Phelan trained gelding finished well beaten on his debut at Goodwood but outran odds of 66/1 to finish 3rd beaten only 1 ½ lengths at Lingfield on his second start showing a lot of early speed. He once again showed early speed over the 6f trip at Windsor last time but faded into 6th late on when beaten only 2 ½ lengths at the finish.
All of Trevor’s runs so far have come over 6f and this drop to 5f should suit him extremely well on his handicap debut off an opening mark of 73. He still appears to learning with each run and I expect him to win on his handicap debut.
