Architect Tips shares Tote Placepot tips for Thursday's action at Goodwood and yesterday's Placepot Results from Goodwood.
13:50 Goodwood
Leg 1 Selections: Perfuse, Promoter
PERFUSE is improving with each start and having won his two previous starts, he shaped well when fifth in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot. This is easier, and conditions will hold no fears, plus Ryan Moore will ride him for the first time. He has to be considered as the one to beat. PROMOTER will also handle the ground and should be suited to the step up in trip given how strongly he has hit the line in most of his starts. He is selected as a back-up option.
14:25 Goodwood
Leg 2 Selections: Sketch, Toca Madera
SKETCH could be the real deal, who recorded a quicker time than the winning time in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes on the same card over the same course-and-distance, when he made a winning debut. He will face different conditions here but there was plenty to like about his introduction and, with more to come, he can prove hard to beat. TOCA MADERA ran a good race from the front when third in the July Stakes at Newmarket and his connections have won this in the past, so he is given the utmost respect.
15:00 Goodwood
Leg 3 Selections: Artistic Star, Chesspiece
ARTISTIC STAR will handle conditions better than most and after winning his first couple of starts, he shaped well when seventh in the Epsom Derby. He backed that up with a good third behind King Of Steel at Royal Ascot and this represents a drop in grade. With even more to offer, Ralph Beckett’s charge can take a bit of beating here. CHESSPIECE was a good third to Gregory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot and resumed winning ways from the front at Hamilton last-time-out. He has the form to run well.
15:35 Goodwood
Leg 4 Selections: Blue Rose Cen, Above The Curve
BLUE ROSE CEN has continued to conquer all rivals in her home country and now has three Group 1 wins to her name. She handles plenty of dig in the ground and bolted up in the Prix de Diane Longines when last spotted. She is an exceptional filly and I fancy her to defeat the defending champion Nashwa. ABOVE THE CURVE is also a Group 1 winner and was only a short-head behind Nashwa when third in the Prix de l'Opera Longines back in October. She will handle conditions very well and if her market rivals fail to fire, she will pick up the pieces.
16:10 Goodwood
Leg 5 Selections: Balon D’or, Count Palatine
BALON D’OR will step into the unknown over this distance for the first time but some of his form is much stronger than what any of these have achieved, including his second in the Woodcote at Epsom, where he had subsequent Group 2 winner Haatem back in third. Harry Davies is a positive jockey booking and Hugo Palmer’s charge makes plenty of appeal. COUNT PALATINE has displayed promise to date and could go well at large odds, too.
16:45 Goodwood
Leg 6 Selections: Metal Merchant, John Chard Vc
METAL MERCHANT has proven he can handle soft ground having finished third at Newmarket back in May when right in behind Dark Thirty, who has advertised the form-lines in a big way since. Ryan Moore will do the steering and with the return to a mile seen as a positive, from a mark that’s within his compass, he can play a leading role. JOHN CHARD VC beat a 100+ rated horse when last successful, so he evidently well-handicapped off a mark of 81 and could easily outrun his odds with Richard Kingscote, a notable addition to the saddle.
