Leg 1 Selections: Prince Imperial, Typewriter, Calling The Wind, Aggagio

Trainer Milton Harris went close to landing this twelve months ago and will rely on stable debutant PRINCE IMPERIAL this year, who has some very smart staying form in the book, winning over two miles on good and also soft-to-heavy ground.

His second when splitting Call My Bluff and Rajinsky is a smart piece of form as both have placed in the Chester Cup since and he is back of his last winning mark, so he is worth inclusion at wild odds.

TYPEWRITER ran really well when fourth in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot and will be suited to the less-distance. She should be thereabouts, while top-weight CALLING THE WIND who won this two years ago, has claims after winning the Northumberland Plate.

AGGAGIO has won at this course three times and could appreciate the step up in distance.

Leg 2 Selections: Nostrum, Epictetus

NOSTRUM made a triumphant return to action when slamming his rivals in a Listed event at Newmarket and appears to have retained all of his ability and more. He achieved a very high RPR in that contest and will take a lot of beating in this contest as he bids to continue to make up for lost time.

EPICTETUS will benefit from the drop back in distance and his only two previous starts over a mile, he finished second in each, including in a Group 1 at Doncaster. He can give the favourite most to think about with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, who has a good record in this contest.

Leg 3 Selections: Awaal, Orbaan, Revich

This is extremely competitive but AWAAL has placed three times in red-hot handicaps after just eight starts, including in the likes of the Lincoln, Royal Hunt Cup and the Bunbury Cup when last spotted. The return to a mile will suit and Harry Davies is booked to ride who can claim three pounds.

The application of cheekpieces could bring about improvement, so he definitely makes the shortlist. I know ORBAAN is still higher in the handicap than when he won this last year but he was really impressive in putting away a good field and this has probably been the plan again.

He will get the required strong pace to aim at and is overpriced. Of the rest, REVICH was third in this last year from only a pound higher mark, where he was really strong at the finish, and could match that form with lots in his favour.

Leg 4 Selections: Highfield Princess

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS has a great chance to resume winning ways after solid place efforts in the Group 1 sprints at Royal Ascot and her speed will be a vital asset at this course. She is clear of these on ratings, is a three-time Group 1 winner, and is the one they all have to beat.

Leg 5 Selections: Hamish, Jack Darcy

HAMISH has won both starts this season, which have both come in Group 3 company, and has an excellent chance of completing the hat-trick with some of the best form in the field and being the highest-rated runner in the field. He will be hard to beat.

JACK DARCY could be the surprise package in the race though, who was a close-up fourth at this meeting last year when right behind three horses rated 115+ in a Group 3 and should be approaching peak-fitness.

He had the option of competing in one of the handicaps this week but instead connections take aim at this race, which makes him of interest, let alone that bit of course form he has. He remains low-mileage, so he could have more to come.

Leg 6 Selections: Starlust, Gaiden

STARLUST has improved a lot since finishing fifth on debut, winning back-to-back events and beat two subsequent winners at Newbury last-time-out when taking the spoils from the front.

I know this is a tougher race but he has pattern-class potential and should make a bold bid to complete his hat-trick.

GAIDEN was sent off favourite to beat Relief Rally on debut at Windsor on soft ground and ran really well to take second, beaten just two lengths and would have been even closer with a clear passage.

That is the best form in this race, while her third in a Listed event at York is also good form as she had Persian Dreamer in behind who has since won a Group 2.

With the combination of a step up in trip, soft ground and a drop in grade in her favour, she’s a major contender.
