Andy Holding is back with two tips for today's action, including a NAP at Ripon.
19:40 Ripon
DASHO LENNIE (NAP) (best price 15/8) performed well enough in a decent handicap at Newbury last time out to suggest he is worth keeping on side and now back on a surface that has seen him go well twice in the past, the son of Territories’ levels of consistency looks set to be rewarded.
A winner on his first outing of the season, Sean Woods’ inmate had the misfortune to bump into the likes of useful three-year-old performers Rogue Sea, Fairbanks and Maasai Mara in the interim and there was another two from his generation standing in his way at the Berkshire venue 18 days ago. On the plus side, he was the only one of those held off the pace to make any impact on the main players at the business end and with the time figure also suggesting it was a fair effort, he deserves more praise than perhaps at first glance.
Moreover, the form of the race has already begun to take shape with the winner and sixth giving it a huge boost at Goodwood last week and with the rest of today’s field lacking the body of work he has on soft ground, he rates a confident choice to put that advantage to good use.
20:50 Chelmsford
FLEUR DE MER (best price 6/1) won in the style of a filly capable of a good deal better than her current assessment suggests and with the potential of even more to come now racing beyond a mile, Hugo Palmer’s inmate is fancied to press home that theory.
Never really involved in any of her first three starts, she was clearly a difficult one for the handicapper to gauge and sure enough, she ended up making a mockery of a mark of 66 on her first attempt outside of maiden and novice company at Wolverhampton last time (was involved in a void race at same track previously).
Held up in the rear after being a little slowly away from her wide draw, the daughter of Dark Angel made headway to race on the heels of the leaders turning for home and from that juncture, she finished off her race strongest of all to win going away.
The way she hit the line and time figure she posted for the grade all hinted she did well to come out of that contest at the Dunstall Park venue only marginally worse off in the ratings (66 to 69) and with today’s track usually offering up more emphasis on stamina, she should be a danger to all if within striking range turning for home.
