We head to Windsor for this evening’s Placepot pool where a guaranteed minimum of £50,000 is in the fund. As you might or might not know, the Placepot guarantee has changed. Please read below to see the relevant changes and what you can expect going forward in regards to the starting fund.

Key changes to the Placepot pools

  • £100k minimum on weekdays – now minimum £50k – with some variation for key events
  • £250k minimum on Saturdays – now minimum £150k – with some variation for key events

We have been very unlucky in the last month or so with the Placepot column, hitting 5/6 on a regular basis and often just one horse letting us down, generally finishing fourth, as we have just missed out on some huge returns on various occasions this past month.

I am confident our fortune will change very soon as we have had plenty of nice winners but unfortunately haven’t been able to connect a winning perm as of yet.

I know this can be tough to swallow after so many near-missed returns but it will not be long before we start hitting a run of form. I am sure it is only around the corner.

I appreciate your patience and if you take time to read the daily column, that is also appreciated. Good luck if you are following me in this week.

Leg 1 Selections: Lion Ring, Destiny’s Spirit

LION RING should be winning this, or at the very least, make the frame. He has placed in two of his four starts this year and has low-mileage on the turf. His record on good and good to firm ground reads 3314, all in fields of nine runners or more. He makes plenty of appeal, while DESTINY’S SPIRIT has a good record at this level and is well-handicapped on the pick of her form, so she is also included.

Leg 2 Selections: Dubai Hills

Mapmaker has won two of her four starts and got the job done last time but DUBAI HILLS should be winning this race on all known form. She chased home Ramatuelle on debut in France for Amy Murphy and that form is seriously strong, as the winner has won high-quality Group 3 and Group 2 events since which have been boosted several times. He will prove extremely hard to beat.

Leg 3 Selections: Drama, Gladly Ever After

DRAMA shaped with plenty of encouragement and promise when fourth on last month’s debut at Newbury behind Sketch and would have been closer with a run as well. He should pose a figure threat here and I will also play the Archie Watson-trained GLADY EVER AFTER knew her job when scoring on debut at Chepstow and wasn’t discredited when seventh in a Group 3 at Ascot last time. This represents a major drop in grade and she should go well.

Leg 4 Selections: Dainty Lady, Pinpoint

DAINTY LADY didn’t shape badly when fifth of 10 in this grade for the first time at Lingfield and this does look a bit easier. She has more to offer and the application of cheekpieces should have a positive effect, so she is definite shortlist material in what is a poor race. PINPOINT won easily at Bath and could follow-up if in the same form.

Leg 5 Selections: Vidi Vici

This is an extremely weak race and a chance is taken on VIDI VICI who’s Goodwood second would be good enough to win this race. He ran poorly last-time-out but had shown plenty in his three previous outings and should prove to be better than this mark. He could emerge as the winner with improvement on the cards.

Leg 6 Selections: Mezon

Flying Kiss was well-held when only fifth behind MEZON at Leicester and it is hard to see the former reversing the form as the latter is open to further improvement on what is just her second start. This well-bred filly came from miles off the pace to finish with a flourish and should have more to come. Leading claims.
