Leg 1 Selections: Remaadd, Wonder

A pretty strong line-up for this Maiden Stakes to open the card in leg 1, as many of these bring significant potential to the table. The obvious standout runner is REMAADD, who shaped with the utmost encouragement when second on debut at Haydock 16 days ago and should he progress, this son of Gleneagles will be hard to beat. Not only did the former shape well on debut but so did WONDER who outran his monstrosity odds when third at Newmarket, which coincidentally came 16 days ago, and should improve with that experience under his belt.

Leg 2 Selections: Indian Creak, Capote’s Dream

The William Hill Keep Your Raceday Positive Handicap, which is leg 2, can hopefully see INDIAN CREAK keep up the good work and potentially complete the hat-trick, who has won his last two starts and will love a bit of soft ground here. He has never won off a mark this high in his career but he couldn’t be in better form and his uncomplicated style of running will see him make a bold effort in order to complete the three-timer. CAPOTE’S DREAM, however, has been in excellent form of late and gained an overdue success at Windsor just 10 days ago on racing league night. He cannot be dismissed in what is a competitive-looking race for the grade.

Leg 3 Selections: Torre Del Oro

In what is a mediocre race for leg 3, the William Hill Selling Stakes, surely this is a straightforward chance for Andrew Balding’s TORRE DEL ORO to collect a second-career success. He didn’t enjoy the run of the race when only midfield at Chester last-time-out but this is a much easier race and he holds a clear edge based on both form and ratings. Oisin Murphy can guide him to the winner’s circle as none of the remainder make any sort of appeal, as much I would normally try to take on a favourite, which is seemingly impossible this time.

Leg 4 Selections: Sea King, Benacre

The William Hill Handicap is leg 4 and the stable’s good form provides hope that SEA KING will build on his return at Kempton, where he finished second, and get into the mix. That run came off this exact mark and he is only a pound higher than when he finished a respectable seventh of 16 in the Old Rowley Cup two starts back at Newmarket. BENACRE returned to form with a fine fourth at Chelmsford last time and a repeat of his second in a Listed race at Newmarket back in May would surely suffice at this level. He can get involved with Rossa Ryan on his back.

Leg 5 Selections: Cherry

Leg 5 can go the way of the consistent CHERRY who had Eastern Empress in behind when third on debut and has since made the frame in all subsequent starts, including twice in class 2 events, with the latest of those coming behind subsequent York winner, Sea Theme, which reads well. That is by far and large the best singular piece of form in the field and this filly by Dubawi should be finally ready to shed the maiden tag for Ralph Beckett. Banker material.

Leg 6 Selections: Escobar, Sudden Ambush

Not many of these have a lot of form on soft ground but ESCOBAR ticks that box and is fancied to go close in leg 6, the City Of Chichester Handicap, given his fine record at this track. His last win came off a four pounds higher mark and the last time he competed on soft ground, he finished third behind subsequent Group 1 runner-up Spycatcher. His revised mark gives him a great chance against these, while SUDDEN AMBUSH is improving with each start and ran a solid race when runner-up in a first-time tongue tie at Newmarket last week. This course-and-distance winner is respected.
