Novel Legend has the sort of sexy profile that was always likely to make him a warm order with the punters and bookmakers alike, but in the shape of TEMPORIZE (best price 4/1), he faces an in-form stayer on top of his game and because Syd Hosie’s has the advantage of winning course form next to his name, he makes more appeal at the morning odds.

Promising on his first outing for new connections over 1m4f at Newbury back in July, the four-year-old was upped significantly in trip a week later at Ascot and, in what turned out to be a well-run race for the grade, he showed improved form to miss only narrowly taking away the main prize.

Up another full half a mile and in a far more competitive affair on his latest adventure over today’s course, once again the son of Postponed kept his graph going in the right direction with a convincing success over many strong stayers and even though the assessor has attempted not to get the wool pulled over his eyes again, this progressive sort still might have the last laugh. Moreover, a little ease in the ground isn’t a problem for him either.

The Big Jetaway arrives here in the form of his life, completing his hat trick in convincing fashion over today’s course last time out, but he does face GO ON CHEZ (best price 10/3) dropping down in grade after a fine effort of his own at Worcester last time out so he might get things all his own way this time around.

Held up in typically patient fashion at the Midland venue, Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero’s inmate made significant headway to latch onto the leaders turning for home but despite running on in resolute fashion all the way down the straight, he didn’t have the requirements to cope with bang-in-form Courtland from two out.

That said, he did beat many other useful rivals in defeat and, having run to a decent level on his two previous visits to today’s track, the seven-year-old can go well again for local connections.

BILL’S BAAR (best price 5/2) has made steady progress in each of his two performances so far to date and with the added advantage of both coming over today’s track, he can put his valuable experience to good use and topple the favourite, Rogue Enforcer.

Slowly away on debut after getting upset in the stalls, Adrian Keatley’s colt didn’t exactly burst out of the gates like Ben Johnson when returning to the Yorkshire venue on his second start but at least he wasn’t that far off the pace by halfway, and he kept on well enough in the latter stages to finish a creditable fourth.

On the evidence of that effort, a return to six furlongs should suit and with his speed figure from here seven days ago suggesting he ran to a fair level, a run of a similar standard, or even better, might well be good enough for him to cause a mini shock.
