RHOSCOLYN (best price 7/2) has developed a real affinity with today’s course in recent times and having run well enough in a very hot handicap in Ireland last time out, a return to more familiar surroundings with his sights lowered should see Michael Appleby’s inmate put up another bold show.

A well-backed winner of a competitive handicap here back in early August, the five-year-old repeated the dose under similar conditions back over the same C&D three weeks later, his only poor run coming in between when never at the races from a poor draw in the valuable Golden Mile.

Only beaten three lengths by the potentially very smart Broadhurst at the Dublin venue a few weeks ago, he had some of Ireland’s best seven-furlong handicappers behind him that day and considering he achieved that feat despite a poor high draw, his performance deserved upgrading.

THERE’S THE DOOR (best price 14/1) looks an audacious entry in this listed race at first glance, but with doubts about many of her opponents on account of ground and trip, she may prove to be the surprise package of the race.

Make no mistake, today’s test will be a proper slog in the conditions and on the evidence of her victory over today’s C&D at the big meeting a month ago, that’s exactly what Dave Evans’ filly relishes. Toughing it out better than her rivals in the latter stages, she hinted that 1m2f on heavy ground are her optimum conditions and that theory was confirmed at Doncaster last time when she just didn’t quite see out an extra two furlongs as well as some of her rivals.

That said, the speed figure from the race on Town Moor more suggested she was up against some very smart fillies from her generation and now she returns to the scene of her most notable performance, there is a fair chance she can nick some valuable black type.

ADAAY IN DEVON (best price 7/1) might need to improve again to contend with the likes of Chic Columbine and Les Bleus but with conditions in her favour and confirmed winning form at today’s track, she could easily prove equal to the task.

A real flagbearer for the yard this season, Rod Millman’s filly completed a hat trick at Carlisle last time out and given the ease of her victory 14 days ago, it’s clear she continues to go from strength to strength.

The way she hit the line once out in the clear pointed towards her staying behind six furlongs and with her ability to handle testing ground more than most likely to prove decisive, she rates the percentage call at the morning odds.

BLAZEON FIVE (best price 11/2) is one of the more exposed members of today’s party, but she does have plenty of soft ground form to call on and that valuable experience gives her every chance of holding her own against several sexy three-year-olds from powerful stables.

A money spinner on the all-weather this time last year, Roger Teal’s mare has continued to progress in the ensuing twelve months and during that time, she has also showed her liking for soft ground. Encountering a slow surface for the first time at Ascot in the summer, she came out on top of a titanic tussle with three other opponents down the home straight and on returning to the Berkshire venue under similar conditions, she repeated the dose in taking the notable scalp of subsequent Goodwood scorer, Temporize (pair 12 lengths clear of the rest).

Although beaten on her latest start in a competitive racing league handicap at Southwell, the daughter of Indian Haven lost nothing in her narrow margin defeat and now returning to a surface she’s unbeaten on in two start and at a track where she has gone well in the past, it all adds up for her to perform to maximum capacity.
