Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action at Newmarket and Wolverhampton.
13:30 Newmarket
The market is favouring the unexposed three-year-olds in this contest but I am willing to take a chance on Madame Ambassador (best priced at 18/1) who won on this card last year. The Charlie Johnston trained four-year-old has won three out of her four starts at Newmarket and is unbeaten on the Rowley Mile course. She won over this course and distance last year and got back to winning ways last time over 1m2f by four lengths.
The handicapper has raised Madame Ambassador 7lbs for that victory which is fair and she can hopefully outrun her odds off top weight with four places on offer.
16:55 Wolverhampton
This looks a weak 0-55 handicap and preference goes to the unexposed Louaizeh (best priced at 9/2) on only her second start in a handicap. The James Ferguson trained three-year-old finished well beaten in her first three starts over a mile when sent of 25/1, 150/1 and 125/1 but outran odds of 22/1 on her handicap debut when she finished 3rd here over 1m1½f. She showed her inexperience that day but stayed on nicely to finish a never nearer 3rd off an opening mark of 51.
Louaizeh now steps up in trip again to 1m4f in this race which should suit her well and the handicapper has left her unchanged on a mark of 51. Daniel Muscutt takes over on board and she should prove hard to beat from Stall 5.
19:30 Wolverhampton
The Richard Hannon trained Minnetonka (best priced at 3/1) was a huge eyecatcher last time at Newmarket and she should prove hard to beat off only a 1lb higher mark here. The three-year-old won over this course and distance a month ago off a mark of 80 before finishing 2nd on her next two starts in premier fillies’ handicaps at Pontefract and Newmarket off marks of 84.
Minnetonka was repeatedly denied a clear run in the closing stages at Newmarket before staying on well to dead heat for 2nd by ½ length and a 1lb rise for that effort seems lenient. This return to Wolverhampton should suit and I expect her to get back to winning ways in this race.
