KALAMUNDA has improved since going handicapping with two solid placed efforts including at Yarmouth last time in a slightly better race. He has a leading chance, while top-weight MENG TIAN ran a fine race when third over track and trip last time and has been given a great chance by the assessor.

Leg 2 Selections: Battle Queen, Completed 

BATTLE QUEEN, an expensive daughter of Churchill, is one of the more interesting newcomers and market support would be a good guide as to what we might expect. I will also add in COMPLETED, whose handler knows how to ready a newcomer and this daughter of Night Of Thunder merits respect.

Leg 3 Selections: Stars Away, Salamanca City 

STARS AWAY is related to several nice winners and her trainer quite often does well with newcomers, so she can be shortlisted. Of the remainder, SALAMANCA CITY made a very nice introduction when a keeping-on fourth on debut at Kempton, faring best of those held-up, and has to be noticed as a contender here with improvement surely on the cards.

Leg 4 Selections: Vultar, Plink 

The Clive Cox-trained VULTAR has done little wrong in all three starts to date, placing in each, and must be considered as the one to beat. I think he will come out on top unless PLINK takes a major step forward from his debut fifth at Redcar. He did plenty wrong in that race but shaped with promise and could run very well here with that initial experience to draw upon.

Leg 5 Selections: Wannabe Brave, Easy Equation

WANNABE BRAVE gained a breakthrough success at Kempton last November off a seven pounds higher mark and has made the frame in his last couple of starts. He can be shortlisted, as can EASY EQUATION, who is a former course-and-distance winner and went very close when third over track and trip back in April. He could be involved.

Leg 6 Selections: Catesby, Coaxing 

CATESBY hasn’t been able to add to his Wolverhampton success back in March but is a pound lower in the handicap and should be able to go well from the inside draw. COAXING gained a course win off a five pounds higher mark back in January and has a good overall record at this course, so she is of interest from her reduced mark.
