GOSHHOWPOSH (best price 5/1) didn’t quite build on his promising beginning to life over hurdles on his next two starts, but he does arrive here as a potentially well-handicapped horse if primed after a 297-day break.

An 80-1 poke on his debut at Chepstow, the six-year-old almost pulled off a massive shock but even so, to finish a close-up second to the useful Knowsley Road, had to go down as a hugely encouraging start to his career. Additionally, the form of the race at the Welsh venue has worked out extremely well since and when you consider the winner is now rated 132 and many in behind such as Imperial Storm, Hot Rod Lincoln, Hurricane Highway, Mount Tempest and Lord Snootie have all won since, it’s rather surprising he has yet to follow along the same path.

That said, there is a chance the ground may have counted against him at both Uttoxeter and Wetherby and now on a surface that shouldn’t offer any excuses for him on his seasonal bow, only lack of fitness can prevent him from being competitive on handicap debut off what appears a workable mark.

SERENGETI SUNRISE (best price 9/2) ran way beyond expectations on his debut over tonight’s C&D last time out and with the time figure he posted in defeat also suggesting it was a better effort than on first inspection, George Scott’s youngster is strongly fancied to play a more pivotal role on his return visit.

Sent off 33/1 in an 11-strong field, as expected, the son of Dandy Man raced green and in the rear for majority of the race, but it was noticeable that he made some decent late headway to finish a respectable fifth and you could see him taking a nice step forward from that initial performance next time.

Form wise, the runner-up has already provided the race with a nice boost with a win at Kempton last week and hailing from a yard who has excelled with their juveniles this year (most have often improved for a run), he could turn out to be another cab off the rank for the Newmarket handler.

There was a lot to like about the way MASTER OF COMBAT (NAP) (best price 15/8) swallowed up his pray here last time out and with the strong possibility tonight’s’ extra yardage will help him immeasurably; Kevin Frost’s inmate will hopefully have all bases covered.

Well backed in his bid to put behind him a few disappointing efforts on the turf, the five-year-old still had a bit on his plate to justify the gamble here three weeks ago, but once he got into his considerable stride in the home straight, his irresistible run couldn’t be halted.

Hitting the line hard (only the five-furlong sprinters matched him on the clock from three out), he left the impression there could be even more to come over further and with connections soon to recognise that theory, he rates a strong choice to continue his progression on the all-weather.
