This looks a weak 0-65 nursery handicap but a chance is taken on the Jamie Osbourne trained ASIAN TIDE (best priced at 10/1) on her handicap debut. The daughter of Havana Gold has finished down the field in her three starts for far this season with SPs of 33/1, 50/1 and 50/1 but put in her best performance over this trip of 7f at Newmarket in August when 5th of 10 beaten only 3 ¼ lengths.

Following that encouraging run, connection dropped Asian Tide down to 6f at Kempton where she was never involved, no doubt with an eye on a handicap mark. She has been given an opening mark of 65 and should run well with Saffie Osbourne back on board from a good draw in Stall 2.

The in-form Lucinda Russell stable looks to have some good chances at Carlisle but one who may be overlooked in the market is CLOVIS BOY (best priced at 10/1) on his handicap debut. The four-year-old was sent off 11/8 favourite for a juvenile hurdle on his debut in January when 5th at Kelso before struggling at both Wetherby and Hexham.

Shaping like this step up in trip to 2m4f would suit Clovis Boy on his handicap debut, he is interesting having been given a wind operation since his last run in April. He could well prove better than an opening mark of 90 and looks worth taking a chance at the prices with up to six places available.

This looks a competitive 0-60 handicap with six course and distance winners in it but preference goes to THE CALTONIAN (best priced at 6/4) who has looked transformed since the application of blinkers and switch to the AW. The Linda Perratt trained four-year-old landed a gamble when a five length winner at Newcastle on his penultimate start when fitted with first time blinkers off a mark of 55 before following up under a 5lb penalty on Monday at Wolverhampton.

Despite a winning distance of only 1 ¾ lengths, The Caltonian won easily under Joe Fanning over this course and distance last time and he looks to hold strong claims despite a double penalty. The gelding has been given a revised rating of 67 which means he runs here 2lbs “well in” at the weights and he should prove a class above in this Class 6 0-60 handicap from Stall 1.
