BERTIE WOOSTER (best price 11/4) proved no match for stable mate West End Girl at Wincanton last time out but considering the race was run in a fast time for the grade and the winner has gone in again, Joe Tizzard’s inmate looks to have a decent opportunity of taking advantage of a drop down in class.

Still holding every chance on the run to two out at the west country venue, it was from that point where the eventual winner really kicked in the turbo and unable to match the son of Westerner, he could only keep on at the one pace back in third.

Posting a career high on the figures despite his 11-length defeat, the five-year-old will hopefully end up being a big fish in a small pond and hailing from a yard who continue to churn out the winners on a regular basis, today’s contest represents the best chance he has had to get off the mark over hurdles.

CHIEFS KINGDOM (best price 5/2) had the misfortune to bump into subsequent Grade 3 winner Croke Park at Clonmel last time out but without seemingly any superstars in today’s race, Paul Nolan’s inmate can finally make the breakthrough.

Settled in midfield at the Tipperary track, the five-year-old was still ten lengths off the pace as the main players turned out of the back straight so to end up running on strongly into second was probably about as good a result as could be expected.

Timewise, his effort in defeat reads well in the context of today’s race and when you consider his main market rival Champagne Admiral, was arguably flattered in a much more slowly run affair at Fairyhouse last time, his odds seem out of whack when you compare their level of achievements.

GEORGI GIRL (NAP) (best price 2/1) was heavily involved in a very hot mares’ only contest 15 days ago and having left the impression she would be all the better for that initial outing, Philip Hobbs and Johnson White’s filly can back up that opinion at the second time of asking.

In what turned out to be a strongly run affair at the Midland venue, the four-year-old found herself in front coming out of the back straight due to her proximity to the pace and as it panned out, being left in the lead for so long ultimately cost her dear.

Faltering on the run down to the last, the lack of a run for 238 days also kicked in and by the time she landed on the run-in, she was a busted flush. That said, her time figure in defeat surpassed anything she had achieved in the past and with today’s sharp track and relatively decent ground in her favour, it would come as little surprise if she were to return to winning ways.

STREET PARADE (best price 11/4) had to be considered an extremely unlucky loser over tonight’s C&D last time out and even though this task must go down as a stiffer one in terms of quality opposition, Michael Attwater’s gelding can still make his presence felt.

An eye-catcher the time before, the seven-year-old was well supported to land a similar prize on his return to the Essex track and if he would have received anything like a clear run down the home straight, it is fair to say he would have won with a bit to spare.

Finishing full of running, he looks a horse on decent rems with himself at present and having won this race off a 10lb higher mark last season, it makes sense to stick with him on his repeat bid.
