Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action.
14:20 Haydock
Both Crmabo and Slate Lane are respected at the top of the market but I am willing to take a chance on at Wakool (best priced at 33/1). The Nick Alexander trained seven-year-old could only finish 7th in this race last season off a mark of 142 but runs in the race this year off a 2lb lower mark. He beat Itchy Feet (who won at Market Rasen on Thursday) in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle in February over this course and distance before finishing midfield at the Cheltenham Festival.
Wakool has slightly disappointed on his two starts this season but his usual cheekpieces are swapped for a first time visor and he should outrun his odds with up to six places available.
15:15 Ascot
Harry Fry won with his only two runners at Ascot yesterday and hopefully his good form continues with last year’s winner Boothill (best priced at 3/1). The eight-year-old is 3/3 in handicap chases in his career including when a comfortable four length winner over this course and distance on his reappearance.
Boothill beat previous Grade 1 Clarence House winner First Flow that day off a mark of 149 and the handicapper has raised him 6lbs for that victory which is fair. Both Saint Segal and Frere D’Armes reoppose with a weight swing but I would be disappointed if Boothill were beaten.
16:45 Wolverhampton
The Mark Loughnane trained Triggered (best priced at 8/1) goes up class from a Class 5 0-75 handicap to a Class 4 0-80 handicap and he looks overpriced over this course and distance once again. The seven-year-old has form figures of 211 over this course and distance in his career with all of those three runs coming this year.
Triggered defied odds of 14/1 won by a short head here on his previous start a month ago off a mark of 72 and the handicapper has raised him 4lbs for that run. He is drawn slightly wider than ideal in Stall 8 but he should run well under Billy Loughnane.
