ONESTEPATATIME (NAP) (best price 7-4) did well to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat here last time out and in a similar race that probably won’t take too much winning, her fourth C&D victory looks very much on the cards.

Noted travelling as well as anything in a tightly knit field coming out of the back straight for the final time, the eight-year-old then proceeded to get stuck in a pocket rounding the home bend and while this was occurring, the well backed Motion In Limine skipped several lengths clear. Setting off in pursuit of her main rival after two out, she was still two lengths down approaching the last, but with a good jump that gave her plenty of momentum for the climb to the line, she somehow found the necessary turn of foot to gain the day close home.

Seventeen lengths clear of the rest, including the well-backed, subsequent easy Uttoxeter winner Dragonfruit, the form has a solid feel to it, and having once again shown a distinct liking not only for the track but for soft underfoot conditions, it will take a big effort from any of her five rivals here today to keep her contained in her repeat bid.

FOR THREE (best price 11-4) finished some way ahead of El Jefe over today’s C&D when they clashed in a similar race 19 days ago and even though his old rival went on to show improved form with a cosy success at the next meeting, Sam England’s inmate is fancied to confirm his superiority on his return visit.

Having his first run for new connections at the Durham venue, the nine-year-old was also trying to overcome a 75-day break and for nine tenths of the two-mile journey, he looked like justifying heavy support in his direction. Arriving at the second last going well, he was soon joining by the menacing figure of Horn Cape and in a titanic duel to the line, he ended up just coming out second best in the shadows of the post.

Posting a career high despite his narrow defeat, it’s fair to say his switch to his new base has clearly sparked some sort of improvement and with the potential of more to come with that all important run under his belt, the son of Pour Moi can begin working his way back to sort of mark he was languishing on a year ago (112 at his peak).
