LEISSIERES EXPRESS (NAP) (best price 4/1) opened his account in taking style at Exeter last time out and with conditions here today likely to be similar to what he encountered 29 days ago, Jeremy Scott’s gelding can continue his rise up the chasing ranks.

Unable to execute his hold up tactics at the west country track previously, much more testing conditions on his return visit mean the pace setters were more obtainable and having made rapid ground from the back of the field to lead on the run down to the last, he only had to be nudged out on the run-in to score with a bit up his sleeve.

Although he has yet to race over today’s chase course, he did run well on the last of his two starts here over hurdles (two miles) and with this afternoon’s big field likely to ensure there’s a decent gallop on from the start, this strong stayer at the trip will be in his element from the home turn onwards.

Not a strong handicap by any stretch of the imagination and it might be one JAY PEE M (best price 16/1) may find himself capable of being competitive in on his first try in this sphere.

Having not shown much on his first three starts there were more signs of encouragement at Cork two outings ago and he backed up that effort with another positive display back at the same track last time.

Held up in midfield, Danial O’Sullivan’s inmate latched himself on to the coat tails of the leading players turning for home and although from that point onwards he couldn’t match the finishing speed of the first half a dozen, he did keep on reasonably well to finish a creditable seventh.

Even though he was beaten 30 lengths at the Mallow venue, the speed figure of the race still meant he was awarded a decent number, and handed a mark of 93 for handicap debut, he could well prove the joker in the pack.

KING OF YORK (best price 11/2) is still awaiting his first success but following a series of positive performances over tonight’s C&D, today could be the time that connections of Scott Dixon’s inmate have been yearning.

Sent off favourite on his last two starts, blowing the start left him with far too much to do against the more prominently ridden Al Suil Elle (going on strongly at the finish), and although he failed in his bid to go one place better on his return visit next time, finishing third to the useful all-weather pair, Eligible and Star Zinc in a much tougher race than the one he faces today could hardly be described as a backward step.

Indeed, the time figure for the race in question 19 days ago was such it allowed him to achieve a career high on the numbers and providing he can exit the gates a little slicker than he has done of late, the son of Kingman can go close to shedding his maiden tag.
