INOUI MACHIN (best price 6-1) undoubtably bumped into an above-average type in the shape of Personal Ambition at Doncaster last time out and with today’s better ground and sharp track likely to suit, Neil Mulholland’s gelding can go well on his first outing in handicap company.

Not seeing out the trip over 2m3f on Town Moor behind the 137-rated Lucky Place (travelled as well as the winner until approaching the last), the six-year-old was well supported in the market to shed his maiden tag over hurdles on his return visit but despite looming up and looking a major threat to his main rival turning for home, he proved no match for Ben Pauling’s talented gelding late on.

That said, he still produced a smart time figure in defeat and with cheekpieces replacing blinkers on this occasion (did lack a bit of concentration at several hurdles last time), a repeat of a similar level of form should see him bang on the premises back over his optimum trip.

AVAKATE (best price 4-1) was like a Ferrari up against a bunch of Honda Civic’s at Doncaster last time out and although she faces several promising mares from different backgrounds here today, Alan King’s inmate has the class to put them all in their place.

Having her first start for new connections since leaving Andrew Slattery’s Irish base, the daughter of Affinisea was dropped right out the back on Town Moor with a view to getting her to switch off and with her energy levels preserved, she came through with a withering run down the home straight to score with any amount in hand.

The way she travelled and powered her way passed toiling rivals was a sight to behold and one would imagine Daryl Jacob will be intrusted to execute similar patient waiting tactics and produce her on the better ground out wide in the home straight.
