We’llhavewan could easily turn out to be the handicap blot he looks on paper on his return to fences but with the bookmakers not missing a trick when it comes to his price, BALDUR’S GATE (best price 33/1) might offer some sort of comfort for those who like to play around with one at bigger odds.

A consistent performer in recent times, Denise O’Shea’s gelding travelled well in his latest encounter at Fairyhouse but in the end, he was just outpointed by a horse who has a terrific record at the Co Meath venue and it was a similar story the time before when R’Evelyn Pleasure had too much speed for him over a trip short of his best.

Seen to good effect on his only visit to today’s course back in November, hopefully memories of that impressive victory will flick a switch on his return to the Co Kildare venue and even though the test he faces this afternoon is by far and away his toughest, a chance is taken he proves equal to the task.

Many decent judges have seemingly latched on to No Flies On Him as a possible contender for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and he will need to win this handsomely if he is to justify that bold target. However, the data suggests his victory at Leopardstown doesn’t amount to a great deal and he might even struggle to land today’s contest up against the likes of Tullyhill and BOLDOG (best price 13/2) and of the pair, the latter makes plenty of each-way appeal.

Having his first run since leaving Stuart Crawford, the six-year-old was also trying to overcome a 252-day break, but noted travelling well throughout a well-run affair at Tramore, he came through the examination with flying colours. Clocking a smart speed figure for a race of its kind, in doing so the son of Authorized accounted for Generous Tom, who had previously chased home the top-class Caldwell Potter in a similar event at Navan, and on the basis of that form line, he looks well worth his place in today’s line-up. Moreover, he proved that day he copes really well with testing conditions and with many in today’s field not guaranteed to handle the ground, Joseph O’Brien’s inmate could well turn out to be the joker in the pack.

WHITE MIST (best price 4/1) has really got the bit between her teeth since fitted with the visor and following a career high performance at Wolverhampton last time out, the four-year-old carries plenty of confidence forward into her next challenge.

0-15 before scoring in the first-time headgear at the Midland venue back in December, she narrowly failed in his bid to follow up on her return visit but she didn’t have to wait too long before regaining the winning thread, scoring in tenacious fashion back there 20 days ago.

Dropped out the back from her wide draw, the daughter of dark Angel still had the whole field ahead of her turning for home but with a relentless surge down the outside of the track she managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and in turn, she ended up clocking a very smart time figure for the grade.

Since then, the form has been boosted in a major way by Due Date (bolted up by three lengths next time) and having gone well on her latest visit to today’s track last June, there’s every reason to expect a solid effort from this in-form filly with any amount of luck in running.
