THE CAMDEN COLT (best price 16-1) is one of the more exposed members of today’s field, but he does at least have a smart speed figure next to his name over this C&D and that valuable commodity might be good enough to see him outrun his odds on his return to the Rowley Mile.

Racing at HQ for the first time in a highly competitive nursery towards the backend of last season, Richard Hannon’s cut out the running and still looked in charge until the late thrust of the well fancied Stormy Waves picked his pocket close home.

That said, the numbers suggested he’d surpassed his previous career high by some way and with an attacking run style that often lends itself to the contours of today’s track at this time of year, the son of Footstepsinthesand can, just as he did last term, make a bright start to this campaign.

THREE IN A ROW (NAP) (best price 11-4) fared a good deal better than the bare result suggested over today’s C&D last time out and providing Donagh Meyler ends up racing on the correct part of the track this time, Arthur Moore’s inmate can go a long way to backing up the view that he remains a very well handicapped horse.

Promising when staying on nicely from an uncompromising position over two miles at the Kildare venue previously, he hinted that he might have a decent future in similar handicaps and although he didn’t managed to convert that theory on his return visit, the decision by his pilot to take his mount around the inside on the swamp on a day when you simply had to stay wide, ultimately cost him dear.

The way he travelled into the race and looking the likeliest winner two out, however, was the most lasting feature of his effort and providing the same fate doesn’t rear its ugly head for the second time in succession, he can capture a race of this nature off his current mark.
