Steve Ryder is back with four tips from Tuesday's horse racing action.
14:00 Yarmouth
Medician Star is respected following his third placed effort on handicap debut but a chance is taken on MAGIC RASCAL (best priced at 3/1) who has a similar profile. The George Boughey trained three-year-old only managed to beat two rivals home in his three runs last season on the AW but as a result has been given an opening mark of 52. The son of Zoustar cost 75,000gns as a yearling and has been gelded and had a wind operation since his previous run in December.
Magic Rascal now returns from 133 days off the track and it is likely that he will prove too good for his rivals in this 0-55 handicap.
14:53 Southwell
Tom Creen has been running consistently well but is always vulnerable to an improver and that looks to be POST CHAISE (best priced at 10/3) in this race. The Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero trained seven-year-old was an impressive 5 ½ length winner at Market Rasen a month ago when fitted with first time blinkers.
That victory came off a mark of 102 which is the same mark that he was successful off in November but a 6lb rise could prove lenient. Henry Brooke takes back over on board and it would be disappointing if he doesn’t make it 2/2 in blinkers.
15:55 Epsom Downs
Ryan Moore rarely rides for his father Gary Moore but when the pair team up they have a 24% strike rate in the previous five years. CHAMPAGNE PIAFF (best priced at 4/1) looked a progressive three-year-old back in 2021 when he won twice that season including over 1m2f here off a mark of 89 by ¾ length.
Champagne Piaff returned from 910 days off the track to finish 3rd at Bath 16 days ago and if this run doesn’t come too quickly after then he should prove hard to beat off the same mark. This step back up in trip to 1m4f should suit and he should be able to get a good early position from Stall 8.
21:00 Wolverhampton
A few of the well fancied horses in this 6f handicap are drawn wide so preference goes to GIDWA (best priced at 7/2) who is well drawn in Stall 5 in his bid to follow up a recent course and distance success. The Kevin Philippart De Foy trained five-year-old was a disappointing beaten favourite at Southwell on his stable debut in February before only getting caught late on here over 7f when 2nd off a mark of 46 in March.
Gidwa went one better when dropped to this distance of 6f last time winning by a nose off a mark of 47. A 2lb rise up to a mark of 49 is fair and he looks sure to run well with four places widely available.
