Steve Ryder is back with four tips for today's racing action
14:40 Doncaster
This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to the topweight COLD STARE (best priced at 9/2) who drops down in class from a Class 4 handicap into this Class 5 handicap. The David O’Meara trained nine-year-old won at Thirsk in April off a career low mark of 68 by 2 ¼ lengths and was only beaten a short head by the in-form Catherine Chroi at Hamilton a fortnight ago who was completing a four-timer.
The handicapper has only raised Cold Stare 2lbs for that latest effort which seems lenient and off a mark of 76 down in class given that he was rated 102 at his peak, he should run well with up to four places on offer.
14:55 Sailsbury
The Jonny Portman trained TWILIGHT DANCER (best priced at 11/1) is a previous course and distance winner who has been running consistently well so far this season. The four-year-old has form figures of 31313214 on turf in her career including an impressive 3 ¼ length victory over this course and distance last season.
Twilight Dancer won on her penultimate start at Brighton by 1 ½ lengths off a mark of 70 before finishing 4th last time in a Class 4 0-80 handicap. She drops in class here to a Class 5 0-75 handicap and she looks sure to run well.
15:25 Sailsbury
NEVER DREAM (best priced at 4/1) won on his handicap debut a week ago under this rider and he should hold strong claims off only a 4lb higher mark. The Marcus Tregoning trained three-year-old finished well beaten in three novice races last season when sent off 28/1, 50/1 and 100/1 but showed improved form winning on his handicap debut having been gelded over the winter.
The handicapper has only raised Never Dream 4lbs for that ½ length victory under Kaiya Fraser and the way he stayed on strongly over 7f suggests that this step up in trip to a mile for the first time should suit him well.
17:10 Doncaster
This looks a weak 0-65 handicap and a chance is taken on BORDERLINE BOSS (best priced at 4/1) on his handicap debut off an opening mark of 65. The Kevin Ryan trained gelding was sent off big prices on his three starts as a juvenile last season but showed promise when finishing 3rd beaten only four lengths on his final start at Catterick.
Borderline Boss now makes his reappearance after 239 days off the track and connections have now fitted him with first time cheekpieces for this race. Oisin McSweeney takes off a handy 3lbs and he can hopefully get off the mark dropped down to 6f for the first time on his handicap debut.
