OXFORD ROCK (best price 6-1) ran with a fair amount of credit in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and with the form already beginning to take shape with Truly Enchanting scoring at The Curragh over the weekend, Joseph O’Brien’s filly can make her mark in this slightly less taxing affair.
Runner-up to the subsequent Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes winner over today’s C&D on her debut, connections made the brave decision to pitch her into the hottest two-year-old fillies’ contest of the season so far off the back of just one run and although she eventually finished out of the frame, there was a fleeting moment when she looked like having a huge say in the outcome.
Third of 14 in her group towards the nearside, she did manage to finish in front of several highly regarded fillies at the Berkshire track, such as Kassaya, Betty Clover (winner of the Marygate previously) and Make Haste to name three, and even though Declan McDonagh has deserted her in favour of Lady Of The Lamp, the daughter of Starspangledbanner looks the one to be with from her stable at the very least.

A high draw towards the stands’ side rail is never usually a bad thing over the straight five-furlongs at the Limerick Junction track and CUBAN GREY (best price 11-4) is fancied to take advantage of his stall position (11 of 11) and keep up his decent recent work.
Ironically handed the exact same box when successful over tonight’s C&D three starts ago, the four-year-old grey has been twice placed either side of that gritty display and his latest effort at Down Royal went along way to suggest he remains in excellent heart.
Breaking well from stall five to race prominently from the start, he looked the likeliest winner until the strongly fancied Keke divebombed and picked his pocket close home, but time may tell there was no shame in getting touched off by a horse who could make an impact at a higher level.
A straightforward ride for an inexperienced apprentice, Patrick McKenna’s grey is likely to be asked to push forward from the start and providing he can hold his position towards the favoured part of the track, he seems sure to be heavily involved in the outcome.
