The market suggests this should be a straightforward task for Aesterius if he repeats his excellent effort in the Norfolk Stakes but that could be a dangerous path to tread and IT AIN’T TWO (best price 11-2) is one of several who might have something more to say than their odds imply.

Winner of a warm fillies’ maiden at Newmarket’s Craven meeting back in April, Hugo Palmer’s inmate has been plying her trade at a high level since and although her finishing positions in two listed races haven’t exactly been what connections were hoping for, there have been mitigating circumstances.

Totally undone by the draw in the Marygate at York, the daughter of Calyx didn’t receive the clearest of runs in a similar contest at Newmarket last weekend and she deserves to be marked up accordingly.

A strong stayer at the minimum trip with the stamina to stay beyond, today’s stiff five-furlongs should prove ideal, and she rates the value call at the morning odds.

KHABIB (best price 11-2) has twice gone close to getting off the mark for the season and although horses of his nature are never the most reliable of conveyances, Ray Cragg’s gelding is still worth a small interest to see whether he can convert one of these events his form suggests he might.

Runner-up to Burning Cash in a very strongly run race for the grade at Thirsk three outings ago, the six-year-old return to the Yorkshire circuit to contest a similar heat last time out and, despite keeping on well in the closing stages, he once again found one too good, this time in the shape of Le Beau Garcon.

Unlike his record of five wins from 21 starts on the all-weather, he has just one victory to his name on the turf, but being as that success took place over today’s C&D, hope is high a return to the Yorkshire track can initiate positive vibes.

Time may tell ACROSS EARTH (best price 7-1) faced an impossible task trying to see off My Dream World over tonight’s C&D last time out and now facing a field that lacks the quality of that sort of opponent, Marco Botti’s inmate can go well on his return to handicap company.

Picking up the running halfway down the back straight at the Merseyside track, the three-year-old pushing the pace along at a fair clip until joined at the two-furlong pole and although he couldn’t raise his game sufficiently enough to repel the late closers, he kept on willingly enough to finish a creditable third.

Even allowing for the fact he got beaten five lengths, his time figure in defeat suggested he’s run to a level way beyond what he’d achieved in the past and providing he receives a more measured ride on his return to the same venue, the son of Golden Horn might be able to surprise a few.
