Not much to separate LADY DORIS (best price 9-4) and Hazna on their latest clash at Down Royal but as the former hails from a yard in much better form than the latter (Dermot Weld 0-16 in last 14 days), Donnacha O’Brien’s filly is fancied to keep herself trending in the right direction.

Just touched off by the improving colt Natural Ruler at Fairyhouse previously, the daughter of Churchill was subject of significant support to capture the Ulster Oaks the following month and although she gave her backers one or two anxious moments, she was ultimately well on top at the finish.

Given the way she hit the line 24 days ago, a step up in trip seems a wise move and hailing from a yard for whom four of their last seven runners have won, confidence is high she can add to that tally at the main expense of her old rival.

A race dominated by in-form horses from the National Hunt scene and of the main players, THE BANGER DOYLE (best price 4-1) makes plenty of appeal to go one place better than he did in this corresponding race last season.

Having his first run on the Flat here twelve months ago, the experience of standing in the stalls clearly sent John Queally’s gelding into a trance because when the gates crashed back, he missed the break by at least ten lengths. Considering how much ground he gave away, the eight-year-old not only did well to work his way back into the contest but he almost went on to land the prize and since then, he has gone to run many fine races under both codes.

A fine second to the smart Boher Road over tonight’s course (2m) back in May, he has since gone on to score in game fashion over fences at Punchestown last time out and with good ground often the key to some of his best performances, everything looks set fair for him to book his ticket to Galway in fine spirits.
