ROGUE SOLIDER (best price 11-2) could never get into a position to land a meaningful blow at Wolverhampton last time out but he did more than enough to warrant another small interest in this similar contest.

Held up in midfield behind a strong gallop set by Supaspecialawesome, James Owen’s gelding was a little short of room when trying to initiate a challenge at the two-furlong pole and while this slight interference didn’t end up costing him the race, there’s no doubt he would have finished a good deal closer.

Even allowing for the interrupted passage and being beaten three lengths, he still came away from the Dunstall Park venue with a useful speed figure for the grade next to his name and providing he can translate the same level of form over to today’s track – which he races over for the first time – the four-year-old has a decent chance of adding to his sole victory from Wolverhampton last November.

ORIENTAL ART (best price 9-2) isn’t the easiest to win with, but he got totally mugged off at Kempton last time out and he is afforded another chance to make amends at a track where he has gone well in the past.

Still towards the rear as the field turned for home at the Sunbury venue, David Simcock’s gelding proceeded to run into a wall of horses dropped back in his lap at the cutaway and once eventually out in the clear, he came home to good effect to snatch third on the line.

Although it’s doubtful he would have handled the front pair even with a clear run, it was a performance to suggest he is ready to strike again soon and teamed up again with Callum Shepherd (the only jockey to have been successful on him), the six-year-old can be backed with confidence to be there or thereabouts at the business end.

COURT DRIVE (NAP) (best price 2-1) received an unpleasant run through in the latter stages of her latest exploits over today’s C&D and taking the view he would have prevailed but for being sent down a blind alley, Gay Kellaway’s inmate rates a strong choice to make amends.

Despite being slowly away here eight days ago, she managed to work herself into a position whereby she had every chance turning for home but for the best part of a furlong, she failed to get the clearest of runs and by the time she had extricated herself from the pocket, the bird had flown.

Pegging back the eventual winner, Lady Dreamer, with every stride she left the impression she would have prevailed with clear run and off the same mark, she can add to her previous victory at the Midland track.
