MAJOR BARRY (best price 9-2) did extremely well to salvage something from the wreckage at Killarney last time out and he is well worth another chance to prove he remains a well handicapped horse.

Nicely positioned going down the back straight at the Kerry venue, the six-year-old got shuffled back down the pack through no fault of his own and by the time the main players had turned their heads for home, he found himself a good 20 lengths off the pace.

Staying on in determined and eye-catching fashion down the outside of the course, he made up a tremendous amount of ground in a short space of time to finish a never nearer third and it’s easy to draw to the conclusion he would have won with a bit to spare had he not been totally upended at a crucial stage.

Prior to that unlucky turn of events, the son of Sholokhov had captured his first race under rules with a smooth performance in a maiden hurdle at Roscommon and with the strong possibility he will continue to improve with each run, this lightly raced gelding is worth keeping on side for the foreseeable future.

INTERNATIONAL GIRL (best price 11-4) kept on well to finish a respectable seventh in a hot handicap at York last time out and now heading back in the direction of one of her favourite venues, Richard Fahey’s mare can add to her track stats that read 241.

Although she has won on the Knavesmire before, her effort there nine days ago was indicative of most of her other performances (355007104887) but if you consider five of her last six starts at the Yorkshire venue have come in Class 2 company, it’s probably unsurprising her overall record on paper doesn’t look too clever.

On her last visit to today’s C&D, however, it was a totally different story with her running out a comfortable winner and with the speed figure speaking favourably of her performance, it makes sense to have another crack at the six-year-old on her return to the garden racecourse back at Class 3 level.

HAVANA PRINCE (best price 3-1) arrives here still very much on top of his game and having been found another opportunity to flourish in Class 6 company, there’s every chance he will add another C&D victory to his name.

Back-to-back wins at the Yorkshire track meant connections will well within their rights to have a crack at a better race two starts ago and although he didn’t disgrace himself behind fellow track specialist Garden Oasis, he ultimately came up a little short on the day.

Back down in grade at Redcar last time out, he managed to resume winning ways and with today’s step back up to a mile against his own age group set to be more beneficial, a strong case is put forward for the likeable three-year-old grey scoring again.
