PENELOPE VALENTINE (best priced at 9/2) was an impressive winner in a first-time visor at Wolverhampton on her penultimate start and hopefully another change in headgear means she can bounce back from a defeat at Newcastle last time. She has shown improved form since joining the James Owen stable with her dropping from a mark of 67 when trained by Alice Haynes earlier this season. 

Penelope Valentine runs here in theory off a 4lb higher mark than at Newcastle last time but she is a previous course and distance winner at the track by 4 ¾ lengths in February and is now fitted with first-time blinkers.

The drop back in trip to 7f in a race which appears to lack pace isn’t ideal for KITARO KICH (best priced at 13/8) but from 2lbs “well in” at the weights he still looks the most likely winner. 2 of his 4 career victories have come over this trip of 7f and he ran well over this course and distance in April when 2nd off a mark of 81. 

Kitaro Kich finished 2nd beaten 1 ¼ lengths over a mile here last time off a mark of 74 and the handicapper has raised him 2lbs for that run. He instead runs here off the same mark meaning that he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and he looks the one to beat under Neil Callan.

Bet 3: 20:10 Kempton - Blue Train 10/11 (1pt)

The William Knight trained BLUE TRAIN (best priced at 10/11) has shown improved over middle distances and he can follow up his recent course and distance success. The three-year-old finished a close 3rd over 1m3f here in September off a mark of 62 before beating Jack Sparowe by a neck a week ago off a mark of 61. That rival ran well to finish a close 2ndyesterday at Newcastle and the pair pulled 3 ¼ lengths clear of the third that day. 

Blue Train runs here under a 6lb penalty which technically makes him 1lb “wrong” at the weights with his revised rating but he is clearly progressive and can make it 2/2 over the distance.
