Goodwood Tips Today: Oddschecker's Most Backed Horses on Day 2

Day 2 of the Glorious Goodwood Festival brings another cracking seven-race card, with handicappers and pattern performers both well represented across the afternoon. There's plenty for punters to get their teeth into, from a fascinating juvenile fillies' contest to a couple of well-touted handicaps where the market has already started to move.

We've picked out four of the day's most talked-about races and where the smart money and expert opinion are landing. Today's card also throws up our NAP of the day - full details below.

TIP 1: INFRAAD - 1pt

Best odds of 5/2 at SpreadEx at the time of writing.

INFRAAD is the one catching the eye for the 13:50. He was an impressive winner on his handicap debut back in April, doing it novice-style by more than six lengths and easing down close home - the sort of performance that suggested there was more to find.

His next start in July, stepping up into a proper handicap, told a slightly different story on paper: only third, but a slow start and a lack of racing room on the run-in did him no favours. With that experience banked and a step up in trip on the cards, there's a strong case that his best form is still to be seen, and he looks capable of franking that big April form when things fall right for him.

TIP 2: PLANET SEEKER - 1pt

On pure form, PLANET SEEKER still has a bit to find with some of the fillies she faces here, but the trajectory is what makes her interesting. She was thoroughly impressive at Newmarket last time, winning with authority in a handicap, and that sort of performance makes the step up into pattern company a logical one rather than a stretch.

Ralph Beckett's excellent record with fillies of this type is well worth noting too - he's not a trainer who tends to over-face them before they're ready. She's already won at this course as a two-year-old, so there are no obvious questions about whether the track will suit.

There's also a nice family and ownership story attached: owner Jeff Smith has a happy history at Goodwood, having previously owned a mare of the same name who won the Stewards' Cup here. All told, a filly on the up, with conditions and history in her favour.

TIP 3: PERSHAADA - 1.5pt (NAP)

Our NAP of the day. PERSHAADA  ticks a lot of boxes: a fourth-placed finish in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot puts her form right at the top end of this generation, she's a proven winner at this course and over this trip already, and the trainer has landed two of the last five renewals of this very race.

That combination of festival-class form, course-and-distance form in the bank, and a trainer with a strong recent record in the race itself is about as complete a profile as you'll find on the card, and it's why this is being backed as the most confident selection of the day.

TIP 4: CALLING A STAR - 1pt

Best odds of 9/1 at Sporting Index while publishing.

CALLING A STAR looks the type to keep on progressing at this trip. He's won his last two starts at this distance and remains unexposed here in handicap company, sitting just 4lb above his last winning mark - there's clearly more scope left.

The one blip on the form line, a fourth at Newmarket last time out, looks a lot better with hindsight: that race has been thoroughly franked since, with Flight Control and Toastmaster both running well at York on Saturday, and the front two from that Newmarket contest were both progressive types in their own right.

Factor in the fact he's barely touched the sides at this trip in cards like this, and there's a strong case he's still ahead of the handicapper.
