UK Horse Racing Tips: Goodwood

Annabel's Ghost heads over for Mickael Seror, the current National Hunt champion trainer in France, and after only going under by three lengths in the Ascot Stakes last time, despite being hampered, he could go well at a price. Kentucky River has been improving over hurdles and looks well-handicapped for Olly Murphy, but BELIEVITANDUCAN gets the narrowest of votes. He has won his last three starts and may well have further improvement to come stepping up in distance.

TALK OF NEW YORK could be a short price here but rightly so as Charlie Appleby's colt has 7lb and more in hand on official ratings. Upped in class for the St James's Palace Stakes in June, he was beaten less than two lengths by Bow Echo and Gstaad which is by far the strongest form on offer. Saber Strike kept on well over 7f when third to Qirat at York and he may have the most room for improvement, especially with first-time blinkers applied, leaving German 2000 Guineas runner-up and subsequent Newmarket winner Shayem to chase them home.

In a tricky race that hasn't seen a winning favourite since 2020, eight of the last 10 winners have come from a low draw which points to the chances of TRIBAL CHIEF. He runs his best races when held up, has Jamie Spencer on board for 2024 winning trainer David Menusier and with his last win over C&D last August, he looks to have been targeted at this contest. The selection finished behind Indalo when that rival gained a deserved success at Sandown after a string of placed efforts, including the Cambridgeshire and the Royal Hunt Cup, and a 3lb swing may prove to be his undoing here. Beagle Bay and Blue Brother appeal most of the remainder.

Night Raider arrives with a leading chance. He beat several of these in the Palace House at Newmarket back in May, including subsequent Sandown scorer Rumstar (second) and last year's winner Jm Jungle (fourth). The latter looked more like his old self when a solid third in Listed company at York last time, having been edged out of the runner-up spot by the improving ASPECT ISLAND. James Owen's sprinter was beaten only a neck in first-time cheekpieces and, with the headgear remaining in place and Billy Loughnane in the plate, there looks even more to come from the progressive three-year-old.

Boiling Point has solid claims having won a Listed contest over 1m2f here at the end of May, when picking off NAQEEB in the final strides. Saying that, the latter reopposes on more favourable terms and, given he tends to save his best efforts for this track, Julie Camacho's charge is fancied to turn the tables on this occasion. Jonquil landed the Group 2 Celebration Mile here last summer and could have a say. Little separated Dividend (third) and Galen (fourth) in the Wolferton at Ascot last month where Haatem was very unlucky after not getting any kind of clear run whatsoever.

Persian Spring struggled in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot last time, but this return to 6f will suit the York novice winner. Stable companion Jaijai won his maiden over the minimum trip here and could feature if lasting home, while the latter comment also applies to DUBAI CHAMPION. Ben Haslam's charge pulled readily clear in the final furlong at Hamilton last month and Ryan Moore's presence suggests he could prove ahead of his opening mark. Sky Secret and Revels are others to consider in an open contest.

Pierian failed in her hat-trick bid in France when stepped up to Listed company but it's way too soon to be writing her off and she's expected to be bang there at the business end dropping back in trip and making her handicap debut. INTO THE LIGHT just edges it, though, as he can be forgiven one mediocre effort in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot, with a close-up second to Lost Boys, the subsequent London Gold Cup and Golden Gates winner, at Sandown remaining fresh in the memory. First-time cheekpieces may also help Charlie Appleby's charge, while Silver State is another noteworthy contender.

Silver Lake brings an attractive, unexposed profile to the table in the finale and, given her connections, the Salisbury winner is a must for the shortlist. However, experience can win the day and ROOM FOURTEEN, who also boasts proven stamina, could be the one to side with after she supplemented a ready Redcar victory with another smooth success at Doncaster. Lady Dora Mae didn't show her true colours at Newmarket but could quite easily bounce back to form on the class drop.
