UK Horse Racing Tips: Galway

Willie Mullins won the opening race on Wednesday with another smart Flat performer, in Mr Hollywood, and COLUMBUS may be able to follow suit. The Oasis Dream gelding was a place in front of his stablemate when runner-up on his hurdling debut at Killarney in May. He should have learned plenty from that and the Group 3 winner could prove a class act now. Another smart Flat performer, Eastwatch, makes his hurdling debut here and is one to note in the market. Young Rebel also goes jumping now having been bought by JP McManus after a bumper win at Fairyhouse last November. He's another to note on his first outing for Emmet Mullins.

PAUL'S DREAM comes here in flying form and may be able to grab a big pot for connections. The Mahler mare has won by wide margins on her last couple of outings and a 10lb hike for an impressive victory at Kilbeggan last time may not be enough to stop her going in again. Lips Freedom also seeks a hat-trick after a couple of wins at a lower level and this looks like a tougher task now. Last year's winner Come On The Lads needs to recapture form but can't be discounted given his course form. Kimi De Mai disappointed last time but ran well in a valuable contest at the Dublin Racing Festival and is another to consider.

A couple of English trainers target the big pot here and the raiders tend to be nicely treated compared to their Irish rivals. Jack Kennedy is an eye-catching booking for SIR GALAHAD, who comes here off the back of an easy win at Uttoxeter in late May. All his best form is on a decent surface and he could be a big player here. Comfort Zone, winner of the opening night feature event, commands respect turning out again. He has eased a couple of pounds since his last run over hurdles. Dani Donadoni found Lizzie Twigg too strong last time but that form looks good now with the winner scoring in Listed company here on Tuesday. He's another to consider.

She may be good enough to make a winning start. Stablemate Glens Sonata is another with a nice pedigree, out of a Listed placed sister to Glens Melody. There are a few with solid placed form in bumpers. Madame Du Berlais ran well at a big price on her debut at Roscommon when chasing home Goodgollymissholly and she could play a leading role now. Point-to-point winner Tamara Jane was third on her 'track' debut at Wexford and is another for the shortlist.

A promising fourth on his introduction at Killarney last month, ZARAK PASHA can open his account. Slowly away on that occasion, the Joseph O'Brien-trained colt stayed on nicely to be beaten less than two-lengths. That form has already received a boost with his fifth placed stablemate winning next time. Given that the O'Brien juveniles tend to improve from their debut, the son of Zarak holds leading claims. Curragh runner-up Victory Speech rates the main danger. A stable second string that day, he stayed on well and should appreciate the additional furlong now. Thomas Chippendale, who holds a Group One entry, may also be capable of getting involved on his debut.

Just touched off by a subsequent winner on his introduction at the Curragh, GLIONDAR can go one better. Having run green at a crucial point of that race, the Joseph O'Brien-trained gelding stayed on late to get within a neck of the victor. Given that the latter horse is now rated 91, it will take a smart performance to deny the son of Romanised here. Saliba showed distinct promise when third on his debut at Gowran Park in May and had a valid excuse when disappointing next time. A reproduction of that earlier run would see him hold leading claims. Down Royal third Storzando didn't get the clearest of passages on that occasion so shouldn't be ruled out.

Caught close home when second here on Tuesday evening, SAN AER can gain compensation. A proven performer around this track, the Ross O'Sullivan-trained gelding has won here twice previously. Well drawn for a horse that likes to race up with the pace, the eight-year-old has plenty in his favour despite the competitive nature of this race. Apache Outlaw has most likely had this meeting as a target for some time. Second at the festival last season, the Ado McGuinness-trained gelding has been running better than his form figures suggest this term. Bay Of Dreams and The Sweet Escape head the remainder.

Second over hurdles here on Wednesday, the Joseph O'Brien-trained FRATAS looks well handicapped back on the Flat. A five-time winner in this discipline for previous connections, the mare showed little on her stable debut at Limerick in June but put in a much improved effort last time. Having been rated higher in the past, a mark of 78 shouldn't be beyond her now and the O'Brien horses couldn't be in better order. Course and distance winner Thatwilldoso arrives here on the back of a narrow victory at Roscommon. Despite a subsequent rise, she should be involved. Pillar Of Hope will need luck in running but has to be respected, while Arch Enemy also warrants attention if taking up this engagement.
