The Galway Festival is always one of the trickiest weeks of the jumps and Flat calendar to get right, but one angle has stood the test of time at Ballybrit: horses who've already run - or better still, already won - at the meeting earlier in the week tend to keep on delivering. That trend is all over today's card, and we've picked out four of the most fancied runners on the day.

TIP 1: TIMURSHAH - 1pt

None are in better form on this card than TIMURSHAH. Sent off at a generous 12-1 on the opening day of the meeting despite arriving on the back of two wins, Aidan Melia's charge made an absolute mockery of that price, travelling strongly from the outset, seizing control coming down the famous hill and stretching clear in the closing stages with any amount in hand.

He'd already shown he handles this type of undulating track when winning at Sligo, and everything about the way he did it on Monday screamed a horse still on the way up. A 13lb rise for that performance is chunky, but given the trajectory and with Conor Smithers clearly finding the right buttons to press, there's no reason to think it stops the progress just yet.

Others worth noting: Wahraan, a smart operator on the Flat, backed that up with a close second here on Wednesday and looks attractively treated now sent hurdling, while Playtime, Dream Shaper and Penzance are others to keep an eye on in another typically competitive Galway handicap.

TIP 2: JOURNEY SO FAR - 1pt

Best odds of 3/1 at Unibet while writing.

JOURNEY SO FAR looked to have plenty in hand when winning at Tramore back in May, and with Gavin Cromwell's gelding still relatively unexposed as a chaser, there's a strong sense he's yet to show his full hand. A mark of 112 doesn't look to have caught up with him, and the visual impression from that Tramore success suggests there's more to come.

He won't have it all his own way. Golden Temple was runner-up over hurdles here on Wednesday and followed a chase win at Kilbeggan the start before that, so the form's holding up nicely. Jukebox Johnny and Saunton Surf both merit respect, and top-weight Soldante is far from a forlorn hope despite carrying top weight.

16:00 Galway

TIP 3: PIERRE ROYAL - 1pt

Best odds of 4/1 at bet365 while posting.

Orandi already has a Galway win in the bag from earlier in the week and Tony Martin's veteran will bid to follow up, but a 7lb penalty for that success looks the difference-maker here. That opens the door for the reopposing runner-up, PIERRE ROYAL, to turn the tables. Adrian McGuinness' gelding races off an unchanged mark, so on a levels-adjusted basis there's a case that compensation is overdue.

The jockey/trainer link-up here is a strong one, and while he usually races over 1m to 1m1f, this drop to 7f shouldn't be a problem - it's a stiff, uphill finish that comes late, which should actually play to his strengths against some of the out-and-out 6f speedsters in the field. Jagged Edge was only a short way back in third last time and isn't one to dismiss lightly, though the drop in trip may not suit him quite as well as it does the selection.

TIP 4: IAMIMMACULATE - 1pt

IAMIMMACULATE had a solid second half to last season and the signs from his reappearance at Roscommon, where he ran well over a longer trip, point to more improvement to come now back at this level. The inside draw is a bonus and with the champion jockey taking the ride, there's every reason to think he can defy top-weight.

Felix Somary left behind a couple of moderate efforts when placed over 1m2f at Navan and this shorter trip may well suit him better. Nephin Mountain ran markedly wide on the home turn when winning at Ballinrobe and was arguably worth more than the narrow margin suggested. Worth noting too that four of these runners are due to clash again over a mile at the track on Friday, so how that race unfolds could have a real bearing on how the market shapes up here.
