Horse: God Given Talent

Trainer: William Haggas 

What caught the eye: His first start for his new Trainer and he may have not gone unnoticed by many punters given the market support before the off and the way that he powered home and through the line. 

He wasn’t fortunate enough to be able to gallop into open ground as the race developed and give his full effort which was confirmed in the post-race comments from Tom Marquand (jockey said colt was denied a clear run on a number of occasions).

You have to go back to the 8th placed horse to find one that carried more weight than him in the race and that may suggest that bigger targets ahead may not be completely out of reach and we’ve seen many a Haggas horse progress through handicaps to mix it in Pattern races. 

When is he a bet: He holds an entry in the Weatherbys £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster and the extra half furlong could be ideal given the way he shaped over the 6f at York. It will be more competitive than the Nursery.

Handicap at York but is one to keep tabs on.

Horse: Storming Point

Trainer: Gary & Josh Moore

What caught the eye: He had to be moved off the back of a rivals heels in the early part of the race which meant that any advancement to obtain a decent position was more difficult and Rob Hornby had to settle for a position at the back of the pack.

That meant that those who finished ahead of him got first run leaving him with plenty of ground to make up but still stayed on well, as he did at Goodwood on his previous appearance. 

I think this horse has wins in him off a mark of 85, and that rating is likely to remain unchanged or slightly reduced. He will need to be ridden more forward in order to trouble the judge and a step up in trip may help him to do that. 

When is he a bet: He appears to like a bit of cut in the ground, as the pick of his form would suggest, and Doncaster may be a target for him come the end of the flat season but I’d be interested if stepping up in trip by a furlong or two on any ground conditions.

Horse: Green Dreamer

Trainer: Joseph O’Brien

What caught the eye: A horse that has improved from run to run and he shaped well in the Futurity Stakes on the weekend. Outpaced when his rivals turned the screw but stayed on well and ultimately was only beaten by three quarters of a length by the current 2027 Derby favourite, Giant Sequoia. Clearly an improving horse and hit the line strong when outrunning his odds as the rag of the field.

When is he a bet: One for the long term for the tracker and likely will need to wait for the 2027 season to get involved with him but I’ve no doubt will be even better when up in trip and on to keep onside in his 3-year-old campaign.
