TANKING ALONG 1pt Win
Best price 3/1.
Only five have ended up going to post for this Handicap Chase, which might just suit Patrick Neville’s huge TANKING ALONG perfectly – as he very much seemed to enjoy the smaller field size at Sedgefield when he was successful over fences in March.
Since that victory he has been a bit more frustrating to follow, as he always seems to run a good race without managing to fully go through with it. Running at Aur in April he led right down to the last before being headed by eventual winner Pleasington (130), but you do have to give him plenty of credit considering he was running 8lbs outside of the handicap on that occasion.
Raised to a mark of 105 for that effort, he then went to Kelso in May and once again looked the most likely winner out in front when having the rest of the field off the bridle – but a mistake at the last allowed hat-trick scorer Singapore Trip (110) to come out on top in the closing stages. By far the most frustrating of the lot was his effort at Perth when last seen on the 14th May however, where he stepped up in trip to 2m4f and had the race in the bag before hanging violently left and opening the door to Sir Carnegie, who won again next time.
Going back left-handed at Cartmel after a bit of a break should be exactly what TANKING ALONG needs in order to show the necessary improvement however, and I also like that connections have opted to re-apply the cheekpieces which he wore when winning at Sedgefield after a similar break in March. That should hopefully stop any repeat of the hanging antics, and equally another big positive is that Brian Hughes is able to take the ride for the first time since that victory.
