PLAID (2pt WIN, NAP)

None of the four runners could be confidently dismissed, but it may boil down to a match between the 3yo pair of PLAID, and Runman.

I favour the overall form of PLAID to come out on top.

Second, first, second on her first three starts, but she looked green and learning still, before destroying her field at Hamilton with an eased 8 length victory.

She ran over course and distance three starts back when beaten around 4 lengths, but was carried left, and that was a Listed content on soft ground.

Beaten 3 lengths in a Listed contested at Hamilton two starts ago, she came up against Superior Choice, who ran 4th to Maltese Cross, Pierre Bonnard, and Derby winner Christmas Day in a Group 2 at York.

The second at Hamilton was Prizeland, a ready winner at York, before running 4th in a Group 2 at Doncaster.

A staying on 4th last time out for PLAID at York in a fair handicap won by the Group horse in a handicap (Silver Lake) was a solid display.

And, this progressive Filly can rate higher for her in-form stable.

BARTHOLOMEW (1.5pt WIN, NB)

Best price 13/8.

Seldom is it good to take on a Willie Mullins favourite, but, on form it is BARTHOLOMEW who has the stronger hurdle form.

Columbus would rate higher on the flat, but since joining the Mullins yard has not seen that ability, and has been tailed off in two flat starts to date, albeit it in strong races.

He comes in here second best on hurdles form with a tidy win at Galway, though, as has potential in this sphere.

But, thanks to a Grade 1 runner-up spot at the Punchestown Festival behind Cheltenham Festival winner Saratoga, BARTHOLOMEW has the stronger credentials.

He has prior bolted up when beating odds-on Willie Mullins horse, and has since been sent off favourite for a strong flat maiden won by Grade 1 winner Banbridge, with Grade 1 winner Western Ford in behind.

It looks a match on paper, preferring the Martin Brassil runner in the hope he can show that Graded form.

NOWWHATDOYOUTHINK (0.75pt EW, 5 places)

Best price 7/2.

Only had a short stint with Gordon Elliott before being thrown in the Galway Plate, his sole run to date for this yard, and a credible 4th.

He had form to recommend with his former yard, including when third to his current trainers Western Fold in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.

Prior, he had bolted up in a three-runner Grade 3.

I think the stable were just getting to grips with his style last time out, travelled well in the race, and I don’t think the mark is what scupped the win.

He meets some re-opposing rivals on better terms here, and, he’s Gordon Elliott’s only runner, which considering what he usually sends to win these type of races may say it all.
