Aidan Coleman takes on two favourites with his Cheltenham Day 1 Tips

We are now just a few hours away from the start of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

Just a few weeks ago our very own George Elek caught up with former National Hunt Jockey, Aidan Coleman, in a Cinema in South London to watch his famous Festival races and discuss what it takes to win at the Cheltenham Festival.

The duo watched back the famous Stayers' Hurdle win on Paisley Park, two Festival wins on Put the Kettle On, Jonbon's 22 length defeat against today's red-hot Champion Hurdle favourite Constitution Hill and Galopin Des Champs' Gold Cup win last year, giving their insight into the tactics behind each ride.

Aidan Coleman's Cheltenham Day 1 Tips

I'm going to go Romeo Coolio in the Supreme Novices Hurdle.

I think the favourite probably is the best horse in the race, and will have achieved more this time next year. However, tomorrow the occasion might get to him - at that price, I think he should be or is opposable. 

He's got a hood on that will help but I'm just not sure his temperament at this stage will hold out at Cheltenham.

Romeo Coolio, on the other hand, has been to Cheltenham. He's obviously handled it well. He didn't win, but he ran really well there last Festival and should probably be unbeaten this year.

He's definitely the value in the race.

The next one is a very boring one, really. It's Majborough in the Arkle Chase.

I know he's short, but he's arguably one of the best bets for the whole week.

Obviously by far the best horse in the race, he was a lot better than his nearest rivals over hurdles, he's a lot better on figures. 

His jumping isn't absolutely assured, but you definitely wouldn't call him a bad jumper.

Finally, I was kind of happy to see Lossiemouth come into the Mares' Hurdle as I really fancy Jade De Grugy and now she's a very different price than she would have been if Lossiemouth had gone for the Champion Hurdle.

I just worry that Lossiemouth's preparation has all been focused towards a Champion Hurdle and getting her to go forward whereas last year when she rocked up for the Mares' everyone's worry, although she was by far the best in it, was her being too keen. 

And they'd worked on settling her, whereas this year she's going there on the back of trying to make her a Champion Hurdle mare.

I think there's a fair chance she might pull her chance away tomorrow and Jade De Grugy will have more for her at the line.
