2023 MLB Home Run Derby Participants Ranking

8. Adley Rutschman

I like how the MLB is adding some young talent for the Home Run Derby. Adley Rutschman has been terrific for the Orioles this season, hitting 11 home runs with an OPS of .792.

But the pressure could get to him, and he's got the least number of homers on the season compared to all the other participants.

7. Randy Arozarena

Randy Arozarena has had quite the year. He dominated for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic and is now entering the All-Star game and Home Run Derby as a representative of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Arozarena has already hit 15 home runs halfway through the season and has become one of baseball's best players. He's never participated in this event before. But there's always one sneaky slugger every year in the Derby. It could be him.

6. Adolis Garcia

Adolis Garcia is an interesting slugger for the Home Run Derby. He has shown off tremendous power since returning to the Majors with the Rangers. He's hit 79 home runs in 2.5 seasons for the Rangers and already has 21 this season.

5. Mookie Betts

There's truly nothing Mookie Betts can't do. So his joining the Home Run Derby isn't surprising. Betts has already reached 20 home runs this season and is having a career season of power, even for him. Betts is a veteran is will likely be calm throughout the event. That could help him dominate the competition.

4. Julio Rodriguez

Julio Rodriguez socked 81 home runs in last year's MLB Home Run Derby. Of course, he will return to the competition with the event in Seattle.

Rodriguez was the first player to record multiple 30-homer rounds in the derby. On his home field, he could put together a special night.

3. Luis Robert

Luis Robert only hit 12 home runs in 98 games last year. This year, he's got 25 home runs in 84 games. He's on an offensive rampage, which could translate to the Home Run Derby.

Robert's having a career-like season. He might have many more of these in the future.

2. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. was runner-up in 2019's Home Run Derby. He lost to Pete Alonso, despite setting a record for the most homers in a single round. Guerrero Jr. will be poised for the event. And maybe this Derby can help his power numbers in the second half of the season.

1. Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso has already won two Home Run Derby events. He lost last year, but he'll still be at the top of this list. Alonso has already smacked 25 home runs this season, despite being on the injured list for a portion of the season.

Alonso, as we know, takes this event very seriously. He'll be ready and prepared.
